Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said Monday that he hasn’t talked to anyone about any other job despite his name being brought up about the now vacant University of Texas job.

He called the numerous reports linking his name to the job as “just speculation.”

“I really don’t know,” Kelly said, via ESPN.com’s Phil Sheridan. “I haven’t talked to anybody. It’s just speculation. I haven’t spoken to anybody.”

Kelly said he understood why reporters needed to do their job and ask the question about the Texas job. Kelly left Oregon about four seasons last year to take the job with Philadelphia.

The Eagles are 8-6 and in first place in the NFC East, one game ahead of the Dallas Cowboys.

“I’m not involved in any jobs. I’m the coach of the Philadelphia Eagles,” Kelly said. “I’m going to prepare for the Bears and prepare for the Cowboys after that. Hopefully we have an opportunity to go to the playoffs and I’m going to be here for a while.”

"Chip is going to bolt back to Oregon".

That has got to be the most noncommittal verbiage I have ever heard with someone that's a head coach.

Send the mrs to Austin on house hunting trip, say you don't feel appreciated in Philly, get big raise, worked for Saban

Last time something was just "speculation" with Chip Kelly, it was his leaving Oregon for the NFL.  I hope the Eagles have a backup plan just in case.

This guy is an idiot. On sunday he kept giving the vikings the ball at the 50 yard line every time. He's lucky Nick Foles and mccoy are on the team, they're making him look decent

The Texas opening got Fisher, Malzahn and Saban big raises and extensions. If Jimbo wins the NC game he might get another one. No reason Kelly shouldn't try the same thing.

Umm, isn't Chip Kelly more or less banned from the NCAA via Show Cause for all of the 2014 season ?

that might explain the loss to the Vikings

Ah Chip..."speculation" is the foundation of today's journalism...

Saban, jim harbaugh, now Kelly. By the time its all said and done every top head coach in the country will have gotten a hefty raise and Texas still won't have a coach.

I wish every coach, every player, etc. would all say at the beginning of their careers, that for the record, if any job opportunity comes up better than the one they have, they will seriously consider it.  There - they don't have to lie or play coy for the rest of their careers.  Or at least, not as much!

The Eagles are not 2 wins away from an NFC east title, only 1 win away. They can lose to the Bears, beat the Cowgirls, and win the division.

of course not,

This is put out there either by people close to Kelly, looking to get a longer contract or higher salary for Kelly  or people linked to Texas trying to increase the profile of the job and attract some unnamed coach that Texas wants but is waiting to see where the dominoes fall.

Reporters don't make this stuff up, they are used as pawns in the negotiating battles between teams and coaches and players, this should be obvious to every single fan by now.

This rumor is put out there by desperate reporters dying to get noticed.  They never attribute to an actual source.

@theboneman21 Nope. Not banned, He agreed to stay out of NCAA football for a year when he left Oregon. He could jump back in, but why? Bears fans- OMG. You got schooled.

@theboneman21Good point about the Show Cause.  That info should be known by the "professionals" and pointed out in any article and reduce the speculation.

@theboneman21From my understanding (and how little NCAA cares for enforcing rules that don't cost them money), all Texas would need to do would be to impose "sufficient" sanctions on themselves and they're fine.

@FredFlintsoneI heard Woody Hayes, Jim Tressel, and Joe Tiller are all next in line for that job.

@Marty2   Would you tell your boss that? Would your boss tell you that if a more productive, younger or more affordable employee came along, they would replace you? This is the world of work, the world of business. Honesty, integrity and loyalty are stuffed in a museum someplace.

It's like the old Chris Rock joke: "A man is only as faithful as his options." Employers and employees are no different. It's an implied truth. Everyone, especially employers, wants / demands loyalty but they have none to offer in return. Ask anyone whose former job has been outsourced to India, China or Mexico! And please don't say that this is sports. This is different. For the money that's involved, it IS business. It IS the same.

@pubsky  In many ways, this is no different than the deception and bluffing that goes on before the NFL draft each spring. Feigning an interest in player A so your opponent will draft him earlier than they'd wanted to make sure that they get him and you don't Of course, you weren't REALLY interested in player A, you were just trying to bluff them into wasting a pick. Perhaps you even deceive them into trading up to get your trade slot to make sure they get a player who likely would have been available at their old slot anyway. It's all lies and deception and it usually has a purpose.

As an earlier poster correctly pointed out, Saban, Fisher and Sumlin have all gotten extensions on the basis of such rumors that they were leaving. That was no accident. That's what agents are for. To use the press to get bargaining leverage. Smart!

@BosephHeyden@theboneman21Do we believe Texas will assume any wrong, let alone those of someone else ?

I realize Austin is on the progressive side of things, but it IS Texas we're talking about.

@JoeCabot@FredFlintsone  Indeed! Have you been cheated out of your hard-earned money? Were you deceived into making a bad decision? Or did you just waste a few minutes of your time reading some b.s. about some one else's career or your favorite team?
