South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier didn’t take any prisoners at media day for the Capital One Bowl, in which his No. 9 Gamecocks (10-2) will take on No. 19 Wisconsin (9-3) New Year’s Day in Orlando.

When asked about Jadeveon Clowney’s speeding incident — the star defensive end was cited going 110 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone — Spurrier took the opportunity to joke about the top team in the country, Florida State.

“I didn’t know Jadeveon’s car could go that fast. He doesn’t have a pretty car like those FSU guys used to drive,” Spurrier said.

BEDARD: Will Jadeveon Clowney be a beast? Or a bust?

The 68-year-old coach also decided to take on his former employers.

First, the University of Florida, Spurrier’s alma mater. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1966 and coached the Gators to a national championship in 1996.

“Somebody told me the Gators are staying home for the holidays, maybe we can get a bunch of Gators to come to our game,” he said about Florida, which went 4-8 and isn’t going to a bowl game for the first time since 1990.

Then he took on the Washington Redskins, who he coached in 2002-03 to a 12-20 record, about the turmoil surrounding them lately.

When asked if he was surprised about what was going on with them, Spurrier laughed and said, “No!”

Spurrier signed the richest coaching contract in NFL history at the time, five years, $25 million, but lasted only two seasons with the Redskins.

Horrible coach, horrible attitude, horrible man. Hated by almost all who know him. Considered the most demotivating coach they have ever had and the most negative person they have ever known by many UF players.

"Well, all those NFL coaches spending 20 hours a day working? That's crazy. I'll them how to do it the right way." Or something to that effect...
