Baltimore Ravens rookie safety Matt Elam is 22 years old.  Apparently, anyone older than that is headed for the retirement home.

Elam praised Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson before their matchup on Monday night, calling the All-Pro “big, fast, athletic, unstoppable” and a “freak.”

Elam was then asked how to stop Johnson and he said, via the Detroit Free Press, “I just said he’s unstoppable, which means you can’t stop him.”

Elam, who has 37 total tackles and two fumble recoveries this season, then said what he really thought of Johnson.

“He’s pretty old, so I don’t know how physical he’ll be,” Elam said “He’s a big guy, but he’s older. I guess when they get older they’re not going to be as physical, you know what I’m saying? We’re going to have to be physical, make him uncomfortable.”

Johnson, by the way, is only 28 years old.

With the rules already making it almost impossible to play defense, why poke the bear with a stick? You big dummy...

Calvin's leg must be feeling better. You've got to admire the irrepressible optimism of youth.

At 22 I used to think that anyone above 27-28 was a "mister".

At 31 now I can see how wrong I was.
