Bayern Munich boss confirms 2014 MLS All-Star Game matchup
Bayern Munich Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed his team will be the international opponent in the 2014 Major League Soccer All-Star Game, according to SoccerByIves. Rummenigge’s announcement was first published in SportBild.
The defending UEFA Champions League, Bundesliga, and German Cup champion will be the first German club to play in the annual MLS showcase.
The MLS has not publicly commented on next year’s All-Star game.
“We were the first German club (to receive) an invitation to the MLS All-Star Game. We have accepted the invitation,” Rummenigge told SportBild. “We are discussing plans to go for a week in the U.S. and to play two matches. The DFL (German Football League) has great interest that we travel to the U.S.”
Bayern expanded its presence in the United States and is expected to open an office in New York, as well as an office in China to tap into international marketing opportunities.
