Oregon suspended starting tight end Pharaoh Brown for the Alamo Bowl for his role in a viral video that showed University of Oregon students and several football players participating in a snowball fight, reports the Oregonian‘s Andrew Greif.

The tenth-ranked Ducks play Texas in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 30.

Head coach Mark Helfrich said over the weekend that discipline was coming for those involved in the snowball fight.

According the report, other players have been disciplined internally and more suspensions could come later for the snowball incident that players and more than 100 students participated in.

On the video, a group of people stopped cars and threw snowballs at them and then dumped snow on the vehicle’s windshields. One of the cars was driven by a former Oregon professor, who said he would not press charges.

“On Saturday, I was made aware of an incident that occurred Friday afternoon during the snow day involving multiple Oregon students, including members of the football team,” Helfrich said in a statement. “The behavior exhibited in the video is completely unacceptable and dangerous. We take this matter very seriously and disciplinary actions have begun.”

Ultimate misleading headline right here. The guy was leaving the campus and ended up having snow dumped in his fucking car. This wasn't a snowball fight. I would have seriously gotten in a fist fight if this happened to me.

LOL the people acting like these kids are a murderous gang or something.  "Throw the book at the young punks!"  Seriously?  Get a life.  They're kids playing in the snow.  They took it a bit too far but they're not all out of control criminals destined to a life of crime.

Oh c'mon! They're college kids and it was snowing! And they've gotta be bear finals. You know how often it snows in Eugene? Not that often, especially not in December. Maybe they went too far. It wasn't safe. But some of these comments make it sound like it was a riot instead of high spirits that got out of hand.

These kids are to big for their britches.  Just a bunch of punks who think they can get away with anything.  Dumping snow into any strangers car is daring now a days.  You could get shot in the face in a heart beat!!!!!

What a bunch of idiots. The school ought to suspend/expel them for taking it way too far. The professor shouldn't have to press charges, the University should bring charges against all of them for violating the code of student conduct on campus.

The problem with dismissing this as a college prank overlooks the possibility of the guy in the car wigging out, revving his engine and running over people, or maybe even worse, taking his gun and firing into the crowd. It wouldn't have been so **** funny then, would it? A snowball or two as he drove past is one thing, an all out assault is another. I'd imagine the students would get upset if you called them children because of this, but how can you call them adults.  Discipline is necessary.

For a little background that SI doesn't provide.  It rarely snows in Eugene like once every decade, like you are seeing.  So, people there are excited.  Only one person attempts to make more of it.  Not a 20 year-old a real grown-up like 50, or so.  Eugene is a great college town, I hope all you deuches writing about how criminal this is, get a life.  Criminal, ya, that you people were raised so judgmentally.  No way, he deserves a suspension, that is BS.  Helfrich you're from Coos Bay, what is the meth in the air there messing you up?

The prof here already said he didn't want to press charges. I think discipline with punishments is probably not a good idea. The guys who blocked the car and prevented the prof from progressing need to go through a process, though. They need to rethink what they did. It can be threatening to have a mob block your car. And mobs are not known to be rational. In this situation, you don't know whether you're safe or not. Turns out the prof was retired and was on his way to donate paintings to the art museum. Hope the thoughtless clown who dumped snow in the car didn't do any damage. In the end, it was only snow and thoughtless mob behavior. Take the ones who blocked his way and put them through a process. Don't overdo it.

How any of you can defend the students as kids being kids is ridiculous. How any of you blame the "dork" professor for getting out of his car is egregious. Next time kids are just clowning around, and someone gets raped and has pictures floating around the internet, as is happening regularly in our country, don't sit back and say you would have stopped the stupid behavior before it got out of hand. All of you defending these students should be ashamed of yourselves. School is for learning, for refuge in learning and growth, and yes, some fun too. But this is downright disgusting.

Gotta' love the way all the tough guys run away when the dork Professor gets out of his car. Then the clown homes in on a girl with his wrath. Anyone stupid enough to record their prank and then post the video, gets what they deserve. Pharaoh? Really? Is his sister named Cleopatra? Get Reverend Jesse and Uncle Al Sharpton up there! This smacks of racism!

what a joke.  kids being kids.  suspending someone for that?  give me a break.  suspend the professor for getting out of his car.  that was really stupid.

went to college in the 80's.  if social media and cam phones were around back then, all of us would probably be facing the death penalty.

This article is false and the title is misleading.  None of the players were involved regarding the video seen.  Yes, they organized the snowball fight with other students....but, were not involved in any of the so-called harassment.  What a joke...it's a fricken snowball....loosen up people.

wow, college kids having a snowball fight

Psst - At St FX the same thing used to happen. On Saturday nights after games, we'd chuck snowballs rather than, you know, go to strip clubs

IndependentsDay

I'd be pissed if they threw snowballs at my vehicle, mainly just because I don't know if any have ice and would dent my vehicle.  Question is, why were they throwing snowballs at cars and not each other?

I imagine you enjoy sitting on your front porch and yelling at kids to get off your lawn. Those dang whippersnappers.

RichLGerhold

What difference does the amount of snow accumulation make? For the record I live in Portland, and I fail to see how the fact that it snowed allows them to interfere with traffic and start beaning people who get out of their cars.

They acted like a bunch of hooligans, they have no one to blame but themselves for the results.

Craig

@MarkStephens A snowball fight amongst friends is just fine.  They all chose to be there.  Throwing snowballs at passing cars is pretty normal, even if some drivers really don't appreciate it.  However, standing in front of a car to force it to stop and then pelting the driver and the inside of the car with snow when he simply wants to drive on crosses a line.  Of course, Duckie fans wouldn't understand that because their pampered players can do no wrong.

WRONG!  This is way beyond acceptable, and he needs to learn that being an adult comes with adult responsibilities...and adult repercussions.  If the driver had then started a fist-fight I'd probably side with the driver.  Nobody deserves that, and nobody should have to tolerate that.  the Duck was a complete goon...and deserves to be punished accordingly.  It doesn't rise the level of criminal assault, but it should be obvious that it's not appropriate behavior.  The fact that snow in Oregon isn't that common means nothing.  I've lived in the state for 65 years...and I seen much worse snowfall.  This child was just plain stupid, and somebody needs to be the adult in the room.

Craig
Craig

@Steve Phillips Nope.  When you assault somebody simply driving by, dumping a huge tote of snow INSIDE his car and burying him then you're way out of line.  This wasn't a willing participant, just some guy trying to drive down the road safely.

Did you just compare being raped to having snowballs thrown at your car?  I didn't know you could get a medical degree in clown college.

@hight You're a joke of an adult. I feel sorry for the kids that look up to you as a role model.

Craig

@carjax1202 Whoops.  Too bad you haven't bothered to watch the video.  The suspended player is the person who dumps the whole load of snow INSIDE the man's car.  I think I'd be pretty upset if that were me trying to simply drive down the road, and a tote full of loose snow is NOT a "fricken snowball!"

HA!  At Bishop's we used to have rez snowball fights after the pub closed (3am)  Often time we would completely encase a car, or a row of cars in snow and then pour water over the piles.  Those car owners had reason to be ticked off ...  Didn't know they had strip clubs in Antigonish, or was that just one of the TV rooms when everybody was drunk?

@IndependentsDay The whole thing is absurd man. No teacher, or student, should not be subject to the hand of a mob of idiots that can cause damage.

KristianColasacco

You're the dumbest doctor I've ever seen.  Snowball fights happen and the way they typically grow is by hitting people as they pass by who then choose to join in.

Had the professor got out of his car and started throwing snowballs back he would have been the coolest guy on campus.  Not like you.  I'm wondering if you even had friends in college or if you were one of those guys that nobody liked or even worse, had no idea who you are.
