Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant announced Friday on Facebook that he will make his season debut Sunday against the Toronto Raptors.

Lakers head coach Mike D’Antoni had said that Bryant had a “pretty good” chance of playing when the Raptors come to town Sunday night — and then he said he didn’t know.

Bryant, who tore his left Achilles in April, was medically cleared for all basketball activities and has been practicing the last few weeks. But D’Antoni decided to play coy rather than make a definitive statement about the 18-year veteran, most likely because it was Bryant’s decision to make.

Kobe Bryant is returning Sunday night. One of the greatest to play the game! He extended his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers for roughly 48 million dollars and one would have thought from the reactions of many that millions of dollars were being thrown at or given away to a D-League cast off rather than one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

How misguided in our judgment we have become as this happens when we lose sight of the facts and respond emotionally.
