Former AC Milan and Rangers midfielder Gennaro Gattuso says he can’t see a place for women in soccer.

Gattuso made the comment after Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani agreed last week to share his role with Barbara Berlusconi, the daughter of club president Silvio.

“For someone like Galliani there should be more respect,” Reuters reported Gattuso as telling Italy’s Radio Radio, via BBC.com.

“I can’t really see women in football. I don’t like to say it but that’s how it is.”

Gattuso spent 13 years with Milan, winning two Champions Leagues titles, two Serie A titles and the Coppa Italian. He was moved into management this year but was twice let go by Swiss club FC Sion and Palermo.

Male soccer fans are either European or homosexual. No exceptions.

Hey Rino,

Maybe you "can't really see women in football," but guess what: soccer is THE most popular participant sport among American GIRLS, and they will all someday be women. But when that comes to pass, you will probably still not see women in football, because your head will still be in the sand.

A soccer player worried about toughness or masculinity?  Funny to me because 90% of NBA/NFL/NHL/MLB players are far tougher than ANY soccer player on the planet.

Soccer is for skinny, scrawny kids who can run, that's it.

I don't see a problem with women in management or anything else except for playing. A woman will never play on a top tier team unless it is just a PR stunt. Women just can't play as well as the top men. It's not sexism, just evolution.

Times they are a-changing and in the changing, they leave people behind. Women are here to stay. They're one of those inventions that caught on! And they will perform in whatever sport they choose. That's part of their nature. Gattuso was a tough competitor and he has a distinct mind set. He has expressed his opinion and it is out there for people to agree or disagree or take pot shots at. Bravo! Gattuso. You are a skit disturber and that's how you are going to be remembered.

Come on.....Is their any sport that once women get involved is so feminized and changed (players get changed as well, like the frog boiling example) it's unrecognizable from its initial form? Women as sports announcers and color commentator of Football and Hockey are an example of utter nonsense on parade. Women journalists running through men's locker rooms is a farce that the other PC sport writers are afraid to comment on. Football in the US will be something indistinguishable from what its always been....very soon due to women involvement.....Maybe its for the best....I'm not a particularly big sports fan.......but please lets not just pretend he's "stupid" he's a vanishing breed ..a real MAN.

I have always like Gattuso because his game reminds me of the way my brother used to play: dangerous and violent.

Attitudes like his are all that make things difficult for women in soccer.

Good thing he is pretty, because he is stupid.

Hired and fired as a manger twice in the same season? Sounds like there's no place in football for Rino Gattuso...

@JohnMatuszak

What is it about proper football that causes people to put it down for no reason?

Does it scare you?

Does it hurt you?

Were you beat up by "soccer" players in high school?

I find NFL and college football anoying with all of the commercials and no action. But I dont go to NFL stories and make silly comments about them.

Who cares...its a sport...you have a ball and some guys and some officials and a pitch and some fans...Whats the difference?

@hawras OK Ill post again, since ive got time to burn: You dont find it to be a glaring double standard that women demand access to the mens locker room for the sake of equality, yet if a man demanded access to Lindsey Vonn as she stepped out of the shower hed be ripped for being a chauvinist?

@JahliSuwaghaman

MLB players are tough? I had no idea. I am suprised you didnt include PGA ad cricket players.

Although I dont agree with Gatusso here, this man would dent in your face, even after retirement.

Scrawny kids? Have you seen the average center back lately? They are transformer sized. They are enormous.

I would agree they can run for days, but they are fast, strong and quick as well. This makes for a total athlete.

At the high school level it is no longer the game of american football rejects. It is a healthy mix of speedy players, quick players, tall and short, big and small. Many american football players join the football teams after their season is over.

You can put any fat guy in a line to play american football, but it takes a special talent to play proper football.

I cahallenge you to tune in to an BPL match this weekend and tell me these guys are not "tough"

@JahliSuwaghaman thats why its the most popular sport in the world eh toughguy? what macho sport do you play profesionally? none or else you wouldn't be trolling the internet. Football and Rugby are physical yes, but that doesn't make them any more admirable...Ide like to see you get in the ring with John Terry, or Japp Stamm or Didier Drogba, these are just a few soccer pros that would destroy you. go hate something legit JahlihlilhalilSuhail

Slight correction. Soccer has no place in American "sports".

@hawras I see the censors are working at quad-shot espresso capacity, maybe I should amplify my response: I find it to be an extremely irritating double-standard that women demand access to the mens locker room, yet if a male reporter tried to interview Lindsey Vonn as she got out of the shower he would be crucified.
