The Brooklyn Nets are 5-12 this season and hovering around the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Now, their coaching staff seems to be in disarray.

Head coach Jason Kidd announced Tuesday that assistant Lawrence Frank will be reassigned effective immediately. Frank was Kidd’s top assistant and responsible for the defense. The Nets enter Tuesday giving up 102.4 points per game, sixth-worst in the league.

Kidd said Frank will not be on the bench or practice and will be doing daily reports.

Kidd, in his first season as a coach, said the change comes from having “different philosophies” with Frank and is about “moving forward.”

DOLLINGER: Numbers don’t lie: Pacers dominating competition

“This is the decision that I had to make and we made it and we move on,” Kidd said. “This is my decision in the sense of what I had to do. It’s about basketball. That’s it.”

Frank led the team earlier this season when Kidd was serving out his two-game suspension for being charged with DUI.   Frank is currently on a six-year deal with the team that averages over $1 million a year.

Maybe now he'll look like he's really coaching instead of letting frank draw up the plays. He wanted the job now take on all the responsibilities that come with it. Goodluck with rookie BROOKLYN.

I'm finished with this post

I agree with most posters here that Kidd is not doing too hot, but the problem is in 2 decisions:

1. Hiring a player immediately after the end of his hall-of-fame playing career to coach at age 40
2. two weeks later, signing Kevin Garnett (age 37) and Paul Pierce (age 36) to the team.

The only way a player becoming a coach right out of the gate like that is with a young team.  KG and Pierce were his peers 5 months ago, and now they are supposed to obey him?  Never mind KG being a bit mouthy.  I was happy for Kidd, and then they signed KG and Pierce and I knew this would end in trouble.

Blame the front office.

he must want a black coach who will kiss his behind on the bench with him.  What a disaster Kidd is. geez.

Any way Jason Kidd can reassign himself to being the water boy.  He's basically that now anyway.  This would make things official.

Was he hired April 1st?

Hiring Jason Kidd as your head coach was idiotic from the get go.  I thought the Russian gazillionaire who bought the Nets was supposed to be a smart guy.  On the basis of this decision, that would not appear to be the case.

@WatsonRocky What did anything Kidd did or this article has to do with a black and white issue....Leave it to an inbreed hillbilly to interpret this from the article....Good luck in life!!

@DEJ1948 Jason Kidd might be the one reassigned pretty soon - to the unemployment line. But he's okay with that, he's got oodles of cash and it'll cost the Nets a lot to kick Kidd out the door even before the first year is done.
