The Dolphins placed offensive tackle Jonathan Martin on the reserve/non-football illness list on Saturday, thus ending his 2013 season, according to Field Yates of ESPN.com.

Richie Incognito — who allegedly bullied Martin, leading to Martin leaving the team — was initially suspended without pay, but he has agreed to stay away from the team while the NFL-led investigation continues.

The Dolphins have avoided commenting publicly while Ted Wells, the NFL-appointed investigator, continues to look into the allegations.

There’s a chance Incognito could return to the Dolphins for the final two games of the season, Fox Sports’ Mike Garafolo reported on Friday.

The move to put Martin on the reserve/non-football illness list was made to free up a roster spot, and it allows Miami to curtail Martin’s salary, according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora.

The Dolphins (5-6) are 2-2 since Martin left the team, and they will visit the Jets on Sunday in an AFC East matchup with potential playoff implications.

@Rickapolis Oh, I bet they will be paying Martin. Maybe not his regular salary right now, but a substantial court judgement or settlement in the future.
