Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III spent a lot of time during his Wednesday press conference talking about topics other than football.

One topic that was brought up was his father, who reportedly came into the Redskins’ locker room after the team was beaten 27-6 by the San Francisco 49ers on Monday.

Griffin completed 17 of 27 passes for 127 yards against the 49ers and has thrown 11 interceptions this season, six more than he had in his rookie season.

On the subject of his father, Griffin said he is not going to stand for people making comments about his family.

“I don’t know what all has been said, I just know it hasn’t all been positive,” Griffin told reporters. “My dad came to check on me. He came to check on me to make sure I wasn’t injured. Mom was upset. He wanted to, you know, do his fatherly duties and step in there and see if I was OK.”

“Anybody out there that’s going after my dad needs to back up,” Griffin said. “That is my father. I will protect my family. He served 21 years in the military. I know that’s not an excuse for anything that he does, but he’s not overstepping any bounds, so I respect that. I hope people will respect that.”

Can anyone tell me why his serving in the military is even a little bit relevant here?

I knew he wasn't going to be anything in this league after he started whining about getting hit last year. Not illegal hits - just hard, clean hits.  This little manlet is done. After a couple of years he'll have all the time in the world to hang out with his ol' pal RGII.

Griffin needs to spend less time running his mouth and more time learning how to run an offense.

"....Are people really that low and callus that they can't believe a father would want to check on his son after a particularly grueling game? ...."

Yeah. Pretty much.

Why would people be criticizing RGIII's dad? Are people really that low and callus that they can't believe a father would want to check on his son after a particularly grueling game? Come on people, leave the family out of it and stop the pointless personal attacks.

@MrArlington It means that in RGIII's young life and the 21 years his father served in the U.S. Army defending your right to be a moron on the internet has already quadrupled the entire expected lifetime contribution that you might leave as a legacy.
