Wizards’ John Wall: ‘I’m the best point guard in the league’

John Wall is having a strong season for the Washington Wizards, averaging 19.5 points, 9.0 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game, but some may question his recent assertion to Fox Sports that he’s “the best point guard in the league.”

The 23-year-old is arguably having the best three-game stretch of his career, with 33.0 points on 61.4 percent shooting, 6.0 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals as Washington has won two of its last three, including Tuesday night’s 116-111 win over the Lakers.

Still, the Wizards are only 6-8 in the weak Eastern Conference, and Chris Paul, who averages just 0.2 points per game less and 3.5 assists more than Wall, may be the league’s consensus pick for top point guard.

Or Russell Westbrook. Or Tony Parker. Or Stephen Curry.

Great point guards lead their teams to great seasons.  When his team has a great year and a nice playoff run, then he can worry about his place.

You know who else said he was the best? Stephon Marbury.

You know where he plays now? China.

Is China the NBA? Nope.

Keep reaching for the All-Stars, Mr. Wall. You might get there.

Geez!! a few great games and he get delusions of grandeur!! Jeremy Lin had a graet run with NY .. the best one EVER for an initial run of a new player. He was a little over rated but he never tooted own horn. He was roundly "hated" in some quarters but he kep being humble. Can you imagine the outcry if he touted himself even minimally along this line of self-promotion?? Will John Wall get much blow back for this degree of temerity or be given a  pass because he's not Chinese?

Once again an article takes the quote out of context in order to get people's attention. I saw the interview after the game. John was asked by the reporter what statement are you trying to make to the league. John responded with that statement. In other words, he is trying to make a statement that he is the best point guards and not saying it's a fact.

Another athlete with a huge head.

Of course you are the best point guard in the NBA. I mean, you said so. It must be true.

Fcking lol. That is all I have to say to that statement.

The only thing wrong with John's tweet is that he forgot the intensifier. Should have tweeted "I'm the best ******* point guard in the league. That's my statement."

And that's my kind of player!

More like:

"Wizards Wall: Been hanging out too much with Lamar Odom - smoking what he's smoking..."

Just off the top of my head: Chris Paul, Steph Curry, Rose (if he's ever Rose again), Rubio, Westbrook, Rondo, hell even Lillard. Totally delusional if he thinks he can shoot in the 30's and be considered the best at anything.... He isn't even the best PG in his own division! (LeBron plays a better PG than he does)

He helped engineer one of the greatest single season turnarounds in NBA last year.  Their may not be a single player more important to his team's win-loss record in the entire league.  With Derrick Rose's injury, the Wizards could easily be the third best team in the East this season despite their mediocre start.  Wall had a rough shooting start to the season, but he is coming along.  His combination of slashing ability and court vision is unrivaled in the NBA.  In my opinion, Wall is probably the second best PG in the NBA, just behind Chris Paul and just ahead of Tony Parker.  He is younger than them, though, and has still not reached his prime.

Everybody relax the man is a point guard the most critical position in the NBA...If you ever lose confidence as a point guard you are done, because your whole team and coaches lean on you more than most of the other players..You have to have that mentality or you won't last in the NBA....keep balling Wall...brush the haters off!...Also since he is probably a top 5 point guard he definitely has to feel this way,,,how if he was a bottom 5 thats a little different to be so vocal about it!!

At least he's not saying that he's the worst point guard in the league. Confidence is a good thing. But...well, there are a lot of 'buts'.

Every Point Guard should believe he is the best-without regard to what others think. With all the money John is being paid, he had better believe  he is the best. Believe in yourself -- soon others will begin to believe. But if you don't believe, no one else will.

@SeaWest4700 John Wall will get a pass because he is clearly high.  Point guards should be known for their passing and general ability to make everyone around them better.  Magic did that...so did Stockton.  So does Chris Paul.  John Wall doesn't.  Jeremy Lin doesn't.

@Skins'Fan ..you forgot Parker on the list, but no one should hold your oversight against you : there are so many PG who are as good or better than Wall....

@kenmorefield No.  It's what they are all supposed to think.  When asked if one thinks one is the best whatever in the world, a simple no comment is best.

@rh2000 Even Joe Montana should never say he is the best quarterback to ever play the game.  Only jerks like Jordan or Kobe self promote.  Let other people carry your flag.  If you're the best they will.

@rh2000 he isnt talking crap, MORON! he is simply trying to boost confidence and become a known point guard, kyrie does the same type of things.

@rh2000 Sounds like you need a group hug..Relax my friend. He is just being confident...If I was one of the top 5 point guards in the NBA I would say the same thing..now if I was in the bottom five that would be a different story!!

Azeron

@Mr. J @rh2000 Even if you were one hundred percent certain you were the best you shouldn't be running around boasting of it.  It's simply not a good look.  Not at all.
