Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate said teammates Walter Thurmond and Brandon Browner were “selfish” for getting suspended by the NFL for substance abuse.

Thurmond was suspended for four games without pay for violating the league’s substance abuse policy and won’t return to the team until Dec. 23.

Browner is reportedly expected to receive a one-year suspension for substance abuse.

“Everyone should realize where this team is,” Tate said Tuesday on ESPN Radio. “You are affecting way more than yourself. I feel like that was kind of a selfish move on both those guys part. “But it is what it is. The show must go on and that’s what we’re gonna do.”

Tate, who is the team’s leading receiver this season, also said he didn’t appreciate some of the comments from fans on social media.

“They talk like Tarzan, but they really look like Jane,” Tate said. “They write things they would never say to your face. But without these two guys [Thurmond and Browner], we still need the 12s to show Monday night, and we need to show up.”

Nobody wants to see the biggest cheaters in the league win anything. Tate shouldn't talk anyway as he showed how classless he is on national television a few weeks ago. Just more proof Carroll runs dirty programs. It's better for the NFL if the Seahawks tank the rest of the way. They built up their own bad karma and now it's starting to come back on them 10 fold.

Golden Tate has never done anything "selfish" in his play. Hypocrisy at it's finest. And yeah, I'd say it to his face. What's he going to do about it?

These are all young men ,,,,,, and I emphasize the YOUNG. They are doing the impossible and that is bringing to Seattle great football and a chance at a Superbowl. I for one am willing to give them a second chance before dumping on them. Tate in particular has had his own issues, but he learns,,,, I am a fan of the guy he is amazing to watch. Go Hawks

You should have printed the entire interview.  Tate was far from "dumping" on his two teammates.  An articulate and compelling interview.

@Jeff_Scott ... I think you need to learn what "hypocrisy" means.  I'm sure Golden would reeeaaaallllyyyy care what you think.

@Mech This was Thurmond's second chance and Browner's third. You don't get suspended for your first violation.

@Johnnystop It says something about your low bar of intelligence when you claim a sports interview with a football player is ' articulate and compelling'.  It's also humorous to watch the wheels wobbling on the Seattle bandwagon as Seattle fans fight among themselves over more suspensions.

Starstruck...  Maybe you're new to listening to football player interviews, but most don't sound anywhere near as articulate and compelling as Golden Tate did in his interview.  We'll let your ignorance and arrogance show through your posts all the while knowing just how ignorant and arrogant you really are.

@Starstruck It says something about you when you didn't even hear the interview and yet you're calling someone unintelligent. There are many, many highly intelligent people playing professional sports these days.

Sounds like the truly unintelligent one here is Starstruck.

@Starstruck   Not all football players attend an SEC school.  Some get educations from real Universities.
