Green Bay Packers guard Josh Sitton went on the radio Tuesday to tell what he really thinks of the Detroit Lions in advance of their Thanksgiving Day NFC North Showdown.

Sitton said he thinks if quarterback Aaron Rodgers played on Thursday that players on the Lions’ defensive line would try to hurt him. Rodgers most likely will not play in the game because of a broken left collarbone.

“They go after quarterbacks, their entire defense takes cheap shots all the time,” Sitton said to Sports Radio 1250 in Milwaukee. “That’s what they do, that’s who they are. They’re a bunch of dirtbags or scumbags. I mean, that’s just how they play.”

Sitton, who is in his sixth year in the NFL, had some choice words to say about the Lions coaching staff as well.

“That’s how they’re coached. That starts with their frickin’ coach. That starts with their head coach, Schwartz. He’s a d—, too,” Sitton said. “I wouldn’t want to play for him. It starts with him and their D-coordinator and their D-line coach. They’re all just scumbags and so are the D-line.”

QB knockdowns, sacks, and injuries are usually due to poor blocking by the O-line, or sometimes a poor awareness by the QB.  It is the job of a pass rusher, to get to the QB as quickly as possible, and to try to get them to the ground in as physically jarring manner as possible, with the hopes of causing a fumble.  Additionally, getting tackled by a guy like Suh or Fairley is going to hurt.  Are they going to try to tackle someone?  Yes.  Then logic follows that by trying to tackle a QB, they are thus also trying to hurt a QB.  To avoid this, Green Bay needs to improve pass protection.

The Packers have been penalized for unnecessary roughness 6 times so far this season, while Detroit has been called for unnecessary roughness 5 times.

The Packers have been called for unsportsmanlike conduct once this year, but Detroit hasn't been called at all for it.

But, Detroit has roughed the passer 4 times this year, while Green Bay has been penalized for it just once.

Also, Green Bay has the second most offensive holding penalties in the league this year with 19 total.  (Tennessee has 20, Josh Sitton has 3 all by himself)

Last year Green Bay allowed the 2nd most sacks in the league.  This year they are improved, especially at run blocking, but much of Green Bay's success has come despite their o-line.  Green Bay's O-line failed to protect Rodgers against Chicago this year, and that was the cause of injury.  It was not dirty play.  Sitton should worry more about doing his own job.

I hate the Packers, but this guy is spot on with his assessment of the Lions.  They're a dirty team led by a classless coach.  They're such a talented team that if Schwartz wasn't their coach they'd probably be contenders...

Doesn't Aaron Rodgers get sacked a lot?  Maybe Joshy should worry about protecting his QBs from the big bad Lions better instead of crying about how they play...

Does it really matter? C'mon....when Suh got fined for a "helmet to body hit" I about lost the last bit of respect for football! In every down, in every game, avery day a game is played, there are many helmet to bodyhits! Especially like the one that Suh was fined on. What a joke! You people bitching about Suh, would have been crying back in the day when the real men played this game if you were worried about nasty players. Call me when NFFL football is done with! (National Flag Football League).

Funny how the kick to RGIII's groin wasnt played 100 times a minute from Monday nignt.  Just because Suh is fisical people think he's dirty.  Every player in football try's to get away with stuff.  And as for trying to hurt the QB.  Isn't that there job to get to him.  It must be grand to be so perfect like this guy.

Nothing like a little trash-talk to enliven a game, which this year marks one of the few times Detroit plays a game that matters on Thanksgiving.

I'll be watching to see if this dude can back it up.

I remember when Lions linebacker Clay Matthews talked about needing to hurt Kaepernick, and then he put a dirty late hit on him out of bounds.

Wait...what team does Matthews play for again?

I'm just hoping that this thanksgiving will come and go without having to see a certain DL stomp on the groin of an opposing player on national TV

I think Sitton is 100% correct. I've been around football long enough to know dirty when I see it and there is NO doubt in my mind that this is coached in Detroit. What has the Lion staff done to tone down Suh? Fined/suspended him? Nope, nothing.

@Joe R2 I'm a Lions fan and I hope the Packers shellac the Lions today if it will hasten the coach's exit.  I don't like dirty play.  Clyde Dobler, Jack Tatum, and all those Steelers, past and present who took pride in injuring players are NOT what I want my team to be like.

Packers better watch their nuts tomorrow.  Suh will be kicking up a storm...

@CitizenKaykay Seriously?  Somebody from Detroit with the stones to talk smack about ANY other American city?  Dude, I hate to break this to you, but even Newark, NJ makes fun of the sewer that is Detroit.  Too bad, too.  It used to be a great city.

@ToddVondrasek You watch the Packers? He's the only guy who brings anything to the table except maybe Lang and Bahktiari...but those guys are way behind him. So, next time do your homework and stop being a typical internet dbag.

Yeah, I'm sure the Lions staff make it a point to keep everyone informed on how they handle their players.

@PadraigHansen @CitizenKaykay Hey PH and CK, Green Bay is another great american city that could have had the bad luck Detroit had. You live in your nice little homes and keep yourselves warm while you can. Detroit problems are America's problems, just like Anthony Bourdain stated. You live where you live, and how you live because of Detroit!!! WIthout the Big Three, do you really think that this country would have been what it is? How much business in this country was automotive related? 10? 20? 30%? Get with the reality of it all pal. Green Bay is nice but as everyone but yourselves know, it'll be a minute for GB to turn into another Detroit. Be grateful that Detroit IS AN AMERICAN CITY, and be grateful and proud that it's making a comeback. Because when everyone in Detroit was making cars and the big WW's came around, DETROITERS, not Green Bay'ers were asked to start making war machines. And believe me, Detroiter's didnt make a ton of money doing so. They did it for pride and for country.

@mike202 what the heck are you talking, your statement was completely discredited when you threw in "Black Democrats" because White politicians have led this country to greatness?!?! Lets keep the talk to football because you are oblivious to politics or the history of this country. If you think this country could run without cities like Det you are out of your mind

mike202
mike202

@MichaelRaffin @PadraigHansen @CitizenKaykay That is just BS.  Detroit's problems are there own.  Run by a string of corrupt, Black Democrats who turned the town into a cesspool pool that Mumbai points to as a worse place to be.

At least other cities try and help them selves.
