Major League Baseball is asking all teams to increase security for next season, including screening each fan at the entrance, according to an Associated Press report.

The league’s security director, John Skinner, is recommending that teams install walk through metal detectors at each gate, although teams may opt for other methods if they wish.

The move is part of a larger effort to increase security at sporting events after 3 people were killed by a terrorist attack at the 2013 Boston Marathon. The NFL changed its policy regarding bringing bags into stadiums, so that all belongings must be carried in a see through pack this season.

Looks like it's minor league games from now on.

I guess MLB must be worried that someone is going to hijack a ballpark and make the home plate umpire to fly it to Cuba...

These would be the same nitwits who wonder why so many of us choose to keep our money in our pockets and watch the games at home on our widescreen HDTVs, from our pleasant living rooms with comfortable couches and/or recliners, quality affordable food and beverages of our choice, no concession or restroom lines, and no loud, obnoxious drunk(s) in the next row.

Wonder whether they might sell beer on the lines waiting to get into the ballpark

In related news, MLB is buying stock in 3D printers.

Had there been metal detectors at the entries to Boston, nobody could have set a bomb off on the street. More insanity in the guise of security.

There is plenty of metal at the ballpark already, why can't we bring our own?

@Canuck While the issue regarding the reason we'd rather stay at home due to exorbitant prices is a valid one I would think we would all be happy with some sort of metal detecting in ballparks. I don't think it would be too much of a hassle considering our safety is at hand. There seems to be a Mega nut out there every day.
