Report: Giants to re-sign Javier Lopez for three years, $13 million
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports the Giants have agreed with lefthanded reliever Javier Lopez on a three-year, $13 million contract.
The Giants and Lopez’s representatives reportedly are just looking over on the guaranteed language in the contract and it will be official pending a physical.
Rosenthal also threw in a tidbit: The Giants are still working on landing another starting pitcher.
Retaining Lopez was among the top offseason priorities of the Giants’ front office. Lopez, 36, was 4-2 with a 1.83 ERA in 69 appearances and 39 1/3 innings last season. He previously signed an $8.5 million, two-year contract in the fall of 2011.
News that the deal was in the works broke Wednesday. San Francisco assistant general manager Bobby Evans said the sides were ”close,” one day after signing righthander Tim Hudson to a two-year, $23 million contract.
