The Miami Dolphins are seeking a delay on a hearing in guard Richie Incognito’s non-football injury grievance against the team, ESPN.com’s Chris Mortensen reported Monday.

The team is requesting the delay while it goes along with an independent investigation into the circumstances that led to Incognito’s indefinite suspension on Nov. 3. Incognito’s hearing is currently set for Thursday.

The Dolphins suspended Incognito for conduct detrimental to the team following reports that he used explicit language and racial slurs in voicemails to teammate Jonathan Martin. Incognito’s grievance argues this violates the collective bargaining agreement.

Incognito filed a non-football injury grievance against the team last week. According to Mortensen, his complaint charges that the Dolphins have not yet identified specific examples of the detrimental conduct.

In an interview with Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer a week ago, Incognito downplayed the actions that led to his suspension as part of the Dolphins’ locker-room culture.

“This isn’t an issue about bullying,” Incognito said. “This is an issue of my and John’s relationship. You can ask anybody in the Miami Dolphins locker room, ‘Who had John Martin’s back the absolute most?’ and they’ll undoubtedly tell you [that it was] me. All this stuff coming out … it speaks to the culture of our locker room. It speaks to the culture of our closeness. It speaks to the culture of our brotherhood. The racism, the bad words … that’s what I regret most, but that is a product of the environment, and that’s something we use all the time.”

The fact the Dolphins are waiting for investigation is exactly why Incogs should be playing.

That will get argued with the lawyers.

Sounds like Incognito is being railroaded on this?

You have the players backing him up?

You have Referee's calling players names?

You have NBA player's calling each other the N word?  and You have Charles in charge Barkley defending the use of the word????

So what's the problem? people are picking and choosing when they want to be insulted.

I'm done with worrying about this.

Just let them all trash themselves and just quit printing these stories to sensationalize them to try to make a buck!  It just fuels the race baiting  B.S.

@MichaelSullivan2 The fact that they are waiting for the investigation is so that it is no longer his word vs theirs, a 3rd party will be heard.  I think they are feeling pretty confident and are right to keep him off the field.

@lazzzlo1 I've always found it highly hypocritical to get upset when a player uses derogatory terms like the N word (no matter the context) when you'd be hard pressed to find any NFL locker room without at least one music CD or iPod with rap music using the exact same language repeatedly.
