Edmonton Oilers recall goalie Ilya Bryzgalov from AHL
The Edmonton Oilers have recalled goalie Ilya Bryzgalov from the AHL Oklahoma City Oil Barons, the team announced Sunday.
Bryzgalov stopped 25 shots in the Oil Barons’ 4-1 win over Abbotsford Saturday night. His second conditioning outing was much better than his AHL debut Friday in which he gave up five goals on 24 shots in a 5-4 loss.
The Oilers agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the colorful free agent goaltender a week ago, after Edmonton started the season allowing a league-high 66 goals with Devan Dubnyk, Jason LaBarbera and Richard Bachman in goal.
Bryzgalov went 19-17-3 with a 2.79 GAA and .900 save percentage last season for the Flyers before being bought out of the final seven years of his nine-year, $51 million contract over the summer.
