Reports: Eagles plan to sign versatile Brad Smith
The Eagles plan to sign versatile free agent Brad Smith, pending a Tuesday physical, as first tweeted by Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.
Smith, 29, could play wide receiver, quarterback and return kicks for the Eagles. He was released by the Bills on Friday after suffering a rib injury in their preseason finale. Smith had 14 receptions for 152 yards and two touchdown last year. He also rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries in 2012.
Smith has averaged 25.7 yards per kickoff and returned four kicks for touchdowns in his eight NFL seasons. He could also boost the Eagles’ kick coverage teams, tying for a Bills-best with nine special teams tackles in 2012, according to Pro Football Focus.
He was drafted out of Missouri by the Jets in 2006.
Free agent WR Brad Smith will sign with PHI today pending a physical according to a team source. Nice fit for Chip Kelly's surging team—
