Steve Nash out at least two weeks with back injury
Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash will be out at least two weeks with “nerve root irritation” in his back, the team said in a statement.
The Lakers announced the setback for Nash after he was examined Monday by back specialist Dr. Robert Watkins, who made the diagnosis. Nash will receive an epidural block on Tuesday. The Lakers said that he will be re-evaluated within 10 days.
Nash played just 13 minutes in the Lakers’ 113-90 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night before coming out of the game because of pain in both his back and hamstrings. Nash has sat out in two games already this season to rest during back-to-back stretches of games.
The 39-year-old Nash is averaging just 6.7 points and 4.8 assists per game so far this season.
