Ohio State wide receiver Evan Spencer is confident his team will go to the BCS Championship, saying that the Buckeyes would “wipe the field” with both Alabama and Florida State.

Alabama is No. 1 in the BCS standings, with Florida State No. 2. Ohio State is No. 3 in this week’s ranking, well back of the Seminoles.

“I’m a little biased,” Spencer said. “I think we’d wipe the field with both of them.”

Ohio State still has games at Illinois, against Indiana and at Michigan. They could also play in the Big Ten Championship game.

RICKMAN: Urban Meyer: Spencer won’t talk to media for a ‘long time’

According to Zack Meisel of Cleveland.com, Spencer made those comments after he watched Alabama beat LSU and Stanford’s victory over Oregon on Thursday night.

“I was the biggest Cardinal fan for three hours,” Spencer said. “We needed a little bit of help, but at the same time, we still have to take care of our business and we have to go out there and show them why we’re one of the best offenses in the country and show them why we have one of the best defenses in the country and why we have the best kicking game in the country.”

As an OSU fan I too once thought the Buckeyes weren't ready for the NC title game at the beginning of the season. But as the season grew on, and along with all the vitrol being thrown as OSU, I indeed hope that they do some how slip into the title game.defeat the opponent, and shut all you haters up.

Florida state wasn't even mentioned.. BS reporting at its finest.

Annnndddd how many players on the Alabama team are running their mouths? Oh yeah.

Staples made a great point in his Power Rankings - Meyer had his team in a similar spot in 2006, where nobody thought UF deserved consideration.  As it stands, #1 plays #2 regardless of delusional wideouts and whiny SI ramblings, so let it play out.  If OSU "backs into" the NC after winning 26 straight to start his tenure, you can be sure that Meyer's going to make his squad bring it.

Basically, Staples told us all to STFU and see what happens, and his opinion ACTUALLY COUNTS.

SI loves to take words out of context to stir up "controversy". As a competitor, of course he wants to play the best and see how they come out. We'll have to wait and see how it all shakes out in the end. Always fun to watch.

When that question was asked of him..neither Ala or FSU came up..SI added those 2 teams to the conversation..never knew SI was bias..unless it's simply for added news?

Obviously you have not seen the Buckeyes play. Carlos Hyde did not play early and Braxton Miller was injured. This team is just now beginning to gel in November. A young defense that replaced 7 starters is coming into form. A senior dominated O-line is man handling other teams and Miller is directing an offense that would put points on the board against anyone in the country. They may not be ready for 'Bama but they can play with anyone and to say they could not beat anyone in the top 10 shows your ignorance.

This is so dumb ohio state couldn't beat anyone in the top ten, let alone the top two.  They've barely survived against teams in the teens, and they have a weak schedule with no real challenges. You may say that Alabama and FSU have weak schedules, but you would be overlooking the strong opponents they face.  Alabama has defeated Texas A & M and LSU, and if they continue to play well they will defeat Auburn in the Iron Bowl and Mizzou in the SEC Championship.  FSU may not play as many strong ranked teams other than Clemson and Miami, but that is no reason to disregard them.  They have one of the top 3 defenses in the nation along with Alabama and Stanford.  Being able to score a lot of points against a not so good team is not the formula for a great team.  OSU hasn't done enough, at least to me, to prove they are worth of going to the BCS National Championship game or beating who the face.  I believe they will lose to Stanford in the Rose Bowl.

Evan - From a Buckeye fan (and I think I speak for most Buckeye fans) - Please shut up.

I'm sure ESPN's deal with the SEC has nothing to do with the shift in national perspective either......

EnashWaca
EnashWaca

It's easy for him to say that because he knows he probably won't have to play either of them.

I can't help but read all the obvious SEC fan comments with a southern draw. It helps put things in perspective....

What hack job writer put this out!??!

He was ASKED how OSU would fair against "TOP TEAMS" and he said they'd wipe the field with them.  NO MENTION OF ALABAMA OR FSU.    Way to conveniently add that in there SI for more clicks.

What do you expect him to say..."we'd lose".??

Hahahahaha.  I know this young man actually believes this and I'm not going to say upsets do not happen.  However, if you look in from the outside Ohio State belongs at the # 3 spot in the BCS right now.  Unless something happens to FSU or Ala OSU will not be in the national championship game (I know that I'm captain obvious stating this).

We've seen that movie before, a big ten team, Ohio State play a SEC team in the title game, and no, it does not end well.  Listen, I'm a big ten follower and even I get the conference is weak.  No big ten team in the title game, please..

This is a non-story.  Wouldn't you expect him to think his team would win?

I'm assuming he means that OSU would wipe the field with Bama and FSU tshirts.........because they sure as he!! would not wipe the field with the Bama and FSU football teams.

Isn't it interesting how Mizzery and ATM went from middle of the pack to top tier by going from the Big12 to the So Everyone Cheats.....

he thinks this based on the tough schedule they have played this year.

Destroy, crush, etc., etc, etc,, anyone using those words have never played a down in their life. As they say that is why you play "the game". Bring on the playoffs next year. Just don't let Ms. Rice vote because she is brain washed! What a brilliant move by the SEC faithful.

I really doubt if OSU could wipe Alabama's glasses.

Bet you thought I was going to say something else.

OSU fans, there is a bright side.  As long as Ohio State doesn't play Bama or FSU, you can keep the win streak alive.

Why no talk about FSU's weak schedule. Miami and Clemsons recent weak performances leave me thinking that FSU's schedule is starting to look very B10ish.

I'm from Canada and follow this pretty close, but why are Alabama fans even talking with Ohio state fans and take them seriously? Alabama has won 3 of 4 national titles and would crush Ohio state, are people just yanking your chains...? Ohio state had trouble with buffalo state until late which a Canadian university team could beat....Ohio state would get beat by bama, Florida state, oregon, Stanford, auburn, Lsu, Baylor, and it would be a toss up between Missouri Ohio state ans southcarolina.....geez I think Vanderbilt could give the buckeyes a go, I actually do think that

There is a guy with a tranquilizer gun and a butterfly net looking for that guy!!! We all know what happened to the Buckeyes against Florida 41-14 LSU 38-24... FSU (strength of sched rank 62) or Bama ( SOC rank 42) would easily win by 14+ vs OSU (SOC rank 81). Oregon (SOC rank 39) would win by 14+, Stanford (SOC rank 2) would be a much bigger challenge to both FSU and Bama because they have much better defenses and Stanford D would pose the biggest threat to either offense but their O just could not keep up and Oregon's O could definitely offset its decent but not great D. Anything can happen Alabama just trounced my LSU Tigers (SOC rank 22) still has 2 games left against teams ranked in the top ten and an untimely turnover or injury and the NC game could get a makeover but I still think its Bama vs FSU until someone "proves" me wrong by beating them. Remember Alabama's only 2  loses in the last 3 years is a 9-6 loss to an LSU team that went 13-0 and then they beat that same team (My Tigers) 21-0 in the NC game and the other loss was to Johnny Heisman's A&M team that was pretty good also. Even the Sagarin computers have OSU ranked behind Wisconsin. OSU has not played anybody to get a realistic view of how good or mediocre they may be. This loud mouth better hope FSU and Bama wins out because he will be mince meat if he has to play either one of those teams!

mashley278

@SupplyingEventualConvicts Isn't it cute how you created that little snappy name just to post a few comments then cowardly disappear under another name? You remind me of a guy named GeorgeKaplan. He was a loud mouth coward too.

@playemball If you don't think SI can be biased, you obviously didn't read the so-called expose on Oklahome State.

BigBubba
BigBubba

@stackjax97 Let me know when OSU faces somebody who is actually ranked.  Until then, I'd advise these bucknuts to keep their traps shut and just keep playing.

And let Urban Meyer try to run the score up on as many teams as he can to convince everyone that the Ohio State liars, er uh Buckeyes are the best.  They deserve each other.

@brownspam

Poor kid.  At least he is being positive.  OSU may finish undefeated but it looks like they will suffer the same fate that happened to Auburn a few years ago.  Also we have Baylor from this year that looks to end the season with no losses as well.

BrettRoar
BrettRoar

And as long as Alabama doesn't play Auburn they should win out. Oh wait a minute....

Snow_Veil
Snow_Veil

@BrettRoar By "Clemson's recent weak performances," are you talking about 40-27 over Maryland, or 59-10 over Virgina? I suppose facts aren't really a big deal anymore, though. The SEC isn't all that strong this year either, if you haven't noticed - it's nothing but perception propping up this idea that middle-of-the-pack SEC teams are superior to every other conference's best.

danielryanmiller
danielryanmiller

@RandyGivogue Alabama, Ohio State, and Florida State have had the top recruiting classes over the last 3 years.  Ohio State has the talent to play with either one.  If you were to take away Alabama's huge oversigning advantage, there wouldn't be a talent gap at all.

playemball
playemball

@Adolfis Adufus..you seriously went through all that trouble to simply embarrass yourself?

danielryanmiller
danielryanmiller

@davidhudsonone Considering Ohio State beat Wisconsin despite taking the foot off the gas in the second half, that shows you how accurate Sagarin ratings are.  A two-loss team over an undefeated team that beat them on the field?  That's a joke.

Cane87

@davidhudsonone The last time FSU played Miami, FSU embarrassed us.  The last time tOSU played us, we embarrassed them.  Make the connection.
