Joe Girardi: A-Rod appeal ‘complicates’ Yankees offseason plans

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Thursday that process involving third baseman Alex Rodriguez’s appeal of a suspension levied earlier this year is complicating the team’s offseason plans.

“I think it complicates,” Girardi said at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, according to ESPN.com.

“It’s important that we know,” Girardi said. “Because if we’re not going to have him, we need to fill that void. It does cause us to think a lot about, ‘Do we need a third baseman or do we not need a third baseman?’

“Hopefully we’ll know sooner rather than later.”

Theoretically, Rodriguez’s case could last well into December. He is appealing the 211-game suspension handed down by Major League Baseball at the beginning of August.

The appeal will resume on Nov. 18. When it concludes, the arbitrator has 25 days to make a decision. That could leave the Yankees’ plans in limbo for a few weeks during the heat of baseball’s offseason. MLB’s Winter Meetings run from Dec. 9-12.

The 38-year-old Rodriguez missed most of last season with various injuries, including a hip ailment that required major surgery. He returned the day his suspension was announced in August. He hit .244 with seven homers and 19 RBI in the two months of action.

Suspension or not, it's time for the Yankees to move on from an Arod who just doesn't have it anymore. Sorry about the money owed but having to pay him doesn't mean he can hit any longer. Arod has run into a tougher opponent than MLB or PED's, he has lost to father time.

Do we need a third baseman or do we not need a third baseman?’

Yes. You need a third baseman.

Brian cashman should be on the phone with Twins GM Terry Ryan for multiple players traded for prospects ...Yankees trade for Josh Willingham to replace CG at Left Field with Alex Presley new center fielder . Chris Parmelee to replace Mark at first and switch Mark to full time DH ... Yankees get Trevor Plouffe to replace A-Rod at third base .. Twins get multiple pitching prospects with a catching prospect too

A-Roid . . . GO AWAY.  You don't care about anyone other than your own pathetic self.  The Yankees would do so much better if they just forgot you existed, and picked up or developed a 3B.  Follow your Barry Bonds idol, and go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure just how guilty ARod is.  Where there's smoke, there's fire...you know?  But I do know one thing...the way MLB went after him is so wrong.  It smacks of the same way the NCAA went after information in the Miami fiasco.  Maybe even worse.  This whole thing should get tossed based on that alone.  Mark my words...MLB and Selig is going to come out of this with egg on their face.  ARod may not win this appeal, but Selig will lose as well...and he should.  Selig has done more to harm baseball than any person I can think of.  I can't believe he still has a job.
