Free-agent starter Ervin Santana is looking for a contract that would pay him “more than $100 million” over five years, Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported Thursday. Free-agent right-hander Ricky Nolasco is seeking a contract in the neighborhood of $80 million over the same period, according to the report.

Rosenthal notes that neither player may get those desired contracts in a weak free agent market that opened earlier this week.

The 30-year-old Santana, who spent 2013 with the Kansas City Royals, is widely viewed as the best available free-agent starter. But his career ERA is only 4.19. He is also only one year removed from a season in which he went 9-13 with a 5.16 ERA with the Los Angeles Angels. Last season with the Royals, he went 9-10 with a 3.24 ERA and had 161 strikeouts in 211 innings pitched.

The 30-year-old Nolasco went 13-11 with a 3.70 ERA between the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers last season. He has a 4.37 career ERA, and he has pitched more than 150 innings in each of the last six seasons.

Is he represented by Scott Boras?  Sure sounds like it

I'll sign for 7 years, 50 MM...and even play DH when I don't pitch. I'm 62 and have a better chance of living up to expectations than Santana for 100MM

Who would give this idiot $100 million, much less a 5 year contract?  A pitcher who floats on and off Fantasy baseball rosters does not deserve 5 years, nor does he deserve $100 million.  I would rather give a ball club $100 million in cash for three prospects then give it to this chump.  What a joke.  Don't get me started on Nolasco.  I'm sure these idiots are looking at the market, and seeing that it's a weak market.  Guess what chumps, that means most teams have their staffs in place already.  I don't even see any of the big money teams throwing money at these guys.  These guys put up Kevin Correia-like numbers, and Correja made $5 million last year in the first of a two year deal.  $100 million?  $80 million?  HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

How can he even throw out the $100 million figure with a straight face.  Average pitchers don't make 15 mil per year, do they?

These guys are making Barry Zito seem like a viable option.

next time I have to throw up I hope he is close by so I can do it on him.

For $100M for this guy it should be a lifetime contract. Work for us til you die! Even if you can only mop floors in your old age!

What a joke. This guy is one of the most inconsistent pitchers I have ever watched. He is like Josh Beckett (minus the injuries); one good year followed by a disaster of a season.

Some team will give him the money and in a year or 2 try to trade him and end up paying most of his contract.
