Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte will miss time in the pool as he recovers from a torn MCL and sprained ACL he suffered during a run-in with a fan.

Rachel Axon of USA Today reports that Lochte suffered the knee injury when a teenage girl jumped on him and the Olympian lost his balance and fell to the ground. A representative for Lochte said he is is expected to come back at full strength:

“As a result of a freak injury caused by an unexpected fan encounter Ryan has suffered a torn MCL and an ACL sprain and will be taking a break from training and competition,” said Janice Lee, his representative.

“His medical team expects him to make a full and speedy recovery and Ryan thanks everyone for their well wishes.”

If you're going to injure yourself, at least make sure it's with a teenage girl.

swimmers are great "athletes" lmao. So remember this when it comes to naming the greatest olympians, phelps shouldn't even be considered. Now Cael Sanderson, there is a true olympian worthy of the accolades.

Your headline says he suffered the injury “after” the run-in.  That makes you the tool.

You are a moron if you believe that.. More like he was injured trying to assault a teenage girl. What a joke, this guy is probably the dumbest human being on the face of the planet...

yeah, "unexpected fan encounter". i'm guessing he needed to be a bit more flexible to try that 'London Bridge' position we all love so much.

Guy is a tool. He could suffer a career ending "fan interaction" and I wouldn't give a fuck. I am not hoping this happens, but I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that i really wouldn't care if it did.

@UBERTAXTHERICH  LOL you clearly know very little about sports.  Swimming is one of the purest forms of being an athlete -- you go from point A to B in the water as fast as you can.  That's it.  No luck.  No teammates to rely on.  No tactics or timeouts or coaches to save you.  No complex rules to bail you out.  No refs to bail you out.  Just get there the fastest, doing what man has done for 10,000 years.  Very much an athletic endeavor.

@UBERTAXTHERICH So you think that swimming is easy and doesn't require a lot of physicality? That's a bit of a joke, swimming is very physical and takes a lot out of you. And anyone that wins eight gold medals in a single olympics and a total of 22 olympic medals deserves to be in the talking as best olympian ever.  I'm just happy you didn't say Usain Bolt as the best olympian ever...

@MrArlington So says the guy spending an enormous amount of time commenting on this story.  You speak for no one other than the thousands of morons running around this country with not a clue about the world around them, know as "sheep".

@MrArlington I think that when you make the statement "I really wouldn't care if it did."  you aren't speaking for a lot of people, you are speaking of yourself, as you clearly stated.  If my comment confuses you I think a lot of people who have read your other spiteful comments will join with me in saying.. go f yourself.

promise! as long as you promise not to take life too seriously ...before you reply in anger to silly comments, take a moment, have a drink, inhale deeply into your lungs, read an old MAD magazine, and then attack if you must

@PatrickBatemanVP He may or may not be a tool, but your opinion is not a fact except in your world.   Seems like you and a bunch of others are rather pissed off that this "tool" gets to have some fun that you apparently don't approve of.
