Broncos head coach John Fox underwent surgery on an aortic valve Monday morning and is currently in recovery, reports Lindsay Jones of USA Today.

Broncos VP of football operations John Elway said that the team is receiving updates on his condition from Fox’s wife and that they do not currently know what the time frame for his return will be. Elway also said that they will let doctors decide how much interaction Fox has with the team while he is recovering.

Interim coach Jack Del Rio also spoke to the media, saying that he would continue to be the defensive play caller, and reiterating that, “This is Coach Fox’s team.”

Fox entered the hospital after becoming lightheaded while golfing last week, and tests showed he would need surgery on a pre-existing heart valve condition that he had hoped to take care of in the coming offseason.
