Cubs interview Brad Ausmus for vacant managerial post
Ausmus, a former catcher with a career .251 batting average, is one of six known candidates for the job, according to Heyman — the others being Padres executive A.J. Hinch, Padres bench coach Rick Renteria, Rays bench coach Dave Martinez, former Indians and Nationals manager Manny Acta and former Mariners and Indians manager Eric Wedge. Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo is also on the radar though he hasn’t interviewed yet.
Ausmus also interviewed with the Tigers, according to Heyman.
Dale Sveum was fired after going 127-197 in two seasons at the helm of the Cubs, who haven’t made the playoffs since 2008.
