RGIII on wide receivers comments: ‘I can’t control what they say’

Washington Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon had an interesting response this week to why his team has struggled on offense this season, saying “if you suck at passing, you suck at passing.”

Garcon says he wasn’t speaking directly about quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Griffin, who has a 79.2 passer rating this season after posting a 102.4 rating in 2012, was asked what he thought of those comments and others.

“These are grown men,” Griffin said, via the team’s website. “I can’t control what they say. Obviously, we’re all in this together and everybody’s going to be frustrated here and there. But the only way for us to get better is to stick together, and that’s what we have to do. I make sure no one becomes a cancer on the team.”

“I think everybody has opinions about it but we’re the only ones who know what’s going on. It’s not my job to come up here and tell everybody what goes on in this organization. Our job is to keep that stuff in-house and to be sure we get better from it because it takes all of us.”

SI WIRE: Report: Redskins owner Daniel Snyder to meet with Roger Goodell about team name

The Redskins (2-5) are 10th in the NFL averaging 24.7 points per game and 10th in the league in net passing yards per game.

Is it just me or is the Garcon quote an indictment of the ENTIRE passing game? Seems to me he is jumping the coaches and the players. No it's not the BEST passing game and perhaps he's playing his role as a vet and saying what needs to be said. Namely that there needs to be some improvement from everyone involved. He didn't name names, he said the passing game. The QB is only a part of that, but the game (and it's plan) is something for the coaches too if not solely.

just because he didnt say anything to the reporter you miss it if you don't think that receiver and some players think that rg3 is a me guy. which is so stereotypical because if he was white we'd crush this receiver in the media. I think these guys personally should just shut up and play better nobody is forcing these guys to talk wheres there PR people. no comment we just focused on winning I think coaching is extremely difficult for that reason selfish me guys that dont fully care about team unless that is in the coare of them building up there stats. anyone remember rajon rondo in boston celtics the guy didnt get along with ray allen but you never heard about it till afterwards boston celtics kept that information in house no quotes to the media from niether side not even the rumors of the rift til allen left celtics handle it perfect and so did the players

What a bit@# thing to say.  This guy is not a team player.  (Vroom) the bus he just threw his QB under.

That could very well be a collective criticism of their entire passing game, not necessarily RG III, alone.

So glad you have Garcon and not us, he was horrible with the COLTS superbowl drops, clutch drops, HORRIBLE - enjoy his drops and his team play,  btw yes very good and mature response from a man who got much more than a NFL career from Baylor (a good education).

This definitely speaks to his maturity as a professional. Kudos RG3!

RGIII continues to amaze me with his leadership. He could of taken the bait, but didn't. He's above that. I thought Garcon was, too, but agree with jhymas25... I'd like to see the entire quote before rushing to judgement. Regardless, hat's off to such a young and talented man who's mature enough to rise above it all.

Very good response by Griffin. Would have liked to see more of Garcon's quote to try to get some context.

@lionoah Pierre Garcon used to receive passes from Peyton Manning.  I can understand his frustrations.
