An undefeated high school football team in Louisiana is being investigated by the state’s high school athletic association for an alleged cheating scheme that involved accessing the film and playbook of at least one opponent.

According to a report from the Shreveport Times, Destrehan’s football team, which boasts an 8-0 record and a No. 5 ranking in the state’s Class 5A, obtained the username and password to an online archive belonging to an opposing team, South Lafourche.

Destrehan’s staff then allegedly spent 12 hours on South Lafourche’s hudl.com site, which can house game film, practice film, schemes and playbooks. South LaFourche lost to Destrehan, 49-24 on Oct. 25.

It’s unclear whether the allegations against Destrehan are limited to just the incident involving South LaFourche.

Kenny Henderson, an executive director with the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA), said it’s an unprecedented situation:

“We’ve never dealt with anything like this before. Were doing an investigation and I can’t tell you more than that because it’s an ongoing investigation and, honestly, I just don’t know what to tell you.”

The LHSAA visited Destehan last Monday and is continuing with its investigation.

To the author, it's "Lafourche" - the "f" shouldn't be capitalized.

And I have no idea what the Destrehan coaches were thinking. They're EASILY the better of the 2 teams (this coming from an alumn of Destrehan's arch-rival).

Sounds to me like the person who gave out the password is just as guilty as the coaches from the team that won.

As a student who goes to this school, this is definitely a shot in the foot to all the football program has accomplished this season. This incident involves a few coaches, and from what I've heard, none of the players even knew about any of this. It's a shame that these events have to take place and a few coaches have to ruin it for these promising young athletes...And by the way, it is cheating. Stop saying it's just good research. They somehow got the passcodes or whatever to access South Lafourche's play book and practice film, and spent many many hours doing research. It is wrong and I'd like to see these coaches punished, not the players.

It IS cheating. It's using information that doesn't belong to them.

Why would you put everything on the computer? If the team knew about it,you had to know others would too. This team lost b/c they aren't good not alleged play stealing.

That isn't cheating.   That is simply good online scouting.  Plus, per the government (e.g., NSA), everything put online is fair game and can be freely hacked into it.   Its amazing that anyone today would actually think it is wrong to hack into someone else's e-mail, records, etc..  The NSA has made it clear that this is perfectly normal and legal behavior.

I know football is a way of life in Texas, but 5A? How many levels are there? We have up to 3A (down, I think, to C), but Maryland is a much smaller state. Does anyone know? Just curious.

Clever. I wonder whether it would even be specifically against the rules.

@eddie767 The site is used for opposing coaches to share game film. Each coach decides what to allow the other. The site also houses actual practices so players can go back and review practices but these are password protected. Apparently the coaches got their hands on an old password and were able to access these actual practices.

Maryland? This is about Louisiana, my friend. And there's a comment that explains it well.

@EricaSt56843562 I went to your brothers girl friends website, she told me she wasn't seeing anyone and for $50 I could see all of her.  Tell your brother I think he can do better.

@HaiHo @Rickapolis Thanks HaiHo. It's funny, but that 5A was what stuck out most in the story. That's a lot of divisions.

@Rickapolis @HaiHo

Indiana has 6. illinois has 8. Ohio has 7, i believe. It's not that many, and quite frankly I would have been surprised if Texas only had 5. But I see it is really 5 x 2 per HaiHo's post.
