Alabama has suspended the block tickets of 20 student groups for the team’s game against Tennessee on Saturday, according to CollegeFootballTalk.

Earlier in the week, Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban chastised students for not staying through the end of the team’s blowout win over Arkansas:

“In some kind of way, everybody that chooses to go to the game should stay there and support the team for the game,” Saban said this week. ”Maybe if you’re not interested in doing that, you should let someone else go who would really like to go because I have a lot of people who want to go.”

The suspended groups will have their seats reinstated for the unbeaten Tide’s next home game, but AL.com reports that further infractions of the student seating agreement would result in the loss of the seats for the remainder of the season. The newly opened seats will be available to all student ticket holders.

King Saban has spoken!  Your place at Court has been temporarily revoked, Bad Subjects!  Further transgressions will result in banishment from the Kingdom!

Nobody is reading the article correctly...

They're not getting their tickets taken away, they are just losing their reserved section where they could all sit together and have prime seats.  They can still go to games, but now they have to find seats when they arrive like everyone else since their section is no longer reserved.

The sections are blocked off for frats.if they don'y want to go then the University will be glad to fill them with people who do. When you leave UA you love it forever...They will still donate.

They are getting sections blocked off. The frats take good spots that even other students would like to use. That is why it is in the handbook. The specific section are allocated for frats. they are getting extra benefits by having sections blocked so that their group is not separated by the other students and other people whom they upsell their tickets to (convert them for non student use at an increased price.

when I went there student tickets were like 5 dollars. In the 90's. They may be all of 10 now.

Those students (or parents) do pay for those tickets in some form. They should be allowed to whatever they want, suspending them isn't going to look good when they become alumni and don''t want to give back..

While I think it is bad form to leave a game before it ends, it's far worse for a team to demand that the fans stay as though it is required of them.

Next time the students are allowed to attend, they should stand with their backs to the field throughout the entire game.

Students might get cheap tickets, but today's students are tomorrow's alumni. Students have a lot more choices with regard to spending their free time in this era, and supporting the school team just isn't the draw it once was.  Eventually those die-hard fans who RV to every Bama game will be in rest homes, and you'll need this year's students to fill their seats. Fans = customers, and it's a bad idea to treat your customers poorly, Nick Saban.

Football players at the top of the college "food chain" is so 1950.

it may seem crazy if you are not an alabama fan but those tickets are very hard to come by for most people.  these students did nothing to earn the tickets except join the right frat.  ENTITLEMENT... and per the student handbook, arriving late or leaving early, among other activities,  is actionable.

This is a very strange story--has any other university ever taken away student groups' tickets for no offense other than not staying for the whole game?

Perhaps there may be many Bama alumni and nonalumni fans who are more dedicated than the students, but it still seems like an odd sens eof university priorities.

Are the students' getting refunds? Were they given a warning first? What about the students in those groups who stayed until the end--what are thei options?

We'll see if Bama can thrash Tenn like Oregon did.

Interesting. I always thought a university was made up of students.

Why is it that SEC teams have the only fans in the country that root for their conference rather than their team?

You are crazy. The sec is still top dog. The only conference that is even close is the pac-12.Stop dreaming....

note to nick your in a weak SEC the ACC, big 10, big 12, and pac 12 have passed you by. start playing a ohio st, mich, ou Texas, usc, stan, or Oregon and some third rate communality college

@rampantbombedrat bwhahaha.  most student sections have policies that require attendees to stay the full game.  these are students, not customers.  just as the players on the field are athletes and not students.  get a clue.

@DSM Strange is correct.  By golly, you students are to sit then cheer when appropriate. Even as our team is up 50 points and the game starts to be boring, you will remain. We have an eye on you.

Good Grief...Way way to much time on someones hands at bama. Get a grip Nick.

@007 they don't thrash teams the same way oregon does.  but, if you're asking if alabama dominated tenn: yes.  yes, they did.

NOW... we'll see if oregon chokes in one of their final 2 or 3 games, as they are wont to do, and then finds themselves on the outside of the national championship conversation...except for with their fans...or until the beginning of next season, when all of you start whining again (see your post above.)

@007 Tennessee is playing much better now than they did early in the season

@SqueekEron you lack perspective.  why can't people root for whomever they want?  do i have permission to like an individual player from a team or am i only allowed to like the whole team?  can i be a fan of rivals, like, say, the cowboys AND the redskins?  can i be a fan of a league:  like the EPL or LaLiga?  your rules/understanding of the world doesn't apply to everyone.  i'm sure if a MLB team played a team from japan, or an NBA team played a team from the italian league, then you'd like the MLB/NBA team to win.  you're not wrong for that.  but, you are sort of stupid for asking the question you asked.

I think the picture of the stadium, Bryany-Denny should give you a clue why fans are proud of their conference. Better facilities , better players, better coaches, better fans. As a friend from Wisconsin said after taking in a game at Bryant-Denny, " The stadium is as nice as a NFl stadium."

anthonydauth
anthonydauth

I don't root for the conference. I just know that the sec is the best conference in the country.

Everyone says Oregon this Oregon that, but what happend when they played teams worth a damn. Played Auburn..lost. Stanford...lost. LSU..got dominated. Oregon puts up lots of points except when they play a team worth a damn.

@SqueekEron It is the AL East ;we now know that it was not the Yankees who have won those World Series but rather the AL East ;as an Oriole fan the success of the Yankees and Red Sox  will now lift my heart and I can shout ;AL East  AL East AL East !!!! Instead of go Obirds since I am fan of a team that is in the AL East AL East AL East !!

@chris s1 i agree with you 100%, except for the fact that no team outside of the sec has won a national championship in the past 7 years.  but, you're right.  the acc, big 10, big 12, pac 12, wac, mac, etc.. have passed the sec/alabama by.

@chris s1 Ohio State should not be on your list at all. They play one of the weakest schedules I've ever seen.

ShifterKart

@chris s1

WHAT? They played Michigan last year and the game was over in the 1st quarter. Something Ohio State could not do barely beating Michigan. they would destroy all those teams except Stan and Oregon. They would beat Stand and Oregon game would be close. That is one of the dumbest things I have seen posted on here.......

@ShifterKart @chris s1 I'm an OSU alumni residing in Oregon. I hate to break it to you but I think Oregon would run roughshod over our Buckeyes.
