The NFL is looking into selling eight Thursday night games a year to an outside network, according to ProFootballTalk.

The deal, which would begin in the 2015 or 2016 season, would be worth around $700 million a year to the league, which would still keep eight of the weeknight games for its own NFL Network, where they now air.

Networks interested in the games would likely include the Turner family of networks, in addition to the fledgling Fox Sports 1 and NBC Sports Network. The deal could also include a wild card game if commissioner Roger Goddell is successful in expanding the playoffs.

thursday games seemed like a great thing when announced but the quality of play due to lack of preparation  time and recuperation time from  the previous sunday's wear and tear have made them a 3rd string  level product at best. Move them to saturday if you must have a 3rd nite of NFL action  start caring about the players as much as you pretend to care

greedell  is a puppet dictator doing the bidding of the greedy owners  - squeezing every nickle out w/o little to no regard to the people consuming its product.. He should be ,although employed by the owners, a steward of the game not a hanging judge hated by the players and the majority of the fans .

The league fines brandon marshall  for wearing shoes to promote mental health awareness  and the leagues own network showoff cam newtons  superman shoes and its talking  heads smurk and act like its something to be proud of  rather than pointing it should be a ten times greater fine for that instead of promoting mental health awareness.

The league reminds me of nascar about 6 or 7 years ago .... on top of its game and making dumb decisions one after the next  Changing fast what made it a superpower  smiling and whistling past the graveyard too dumb to know the light at the end of the tunnel is a train.

Hey greedell , look at the bleachers in nascar highlights from 2007 and then look at them today keep changing the rules and the way the game is played  and peer into your future.

Player safety? What a joke. Three days to rest before a 350 lb. Lineman pounds you for another day. Mo' Money. Players union should put their foot down and say no.

The NFL should do a Friday night game of the week in conjunction with Sunday, Sunday night, Monday night, and Thursday night. Friday night would be a success based on the fact that people won't mind staying up late to watch a game with no work the next day and college football dominates on Saturday's. Extend the season by another week and the revenue would be off the charts for them...give the Friday night game to FOX.

@DouglasMaher Plenty of football here in GA on Friday night, they broadcast high school games statewide on the PBS network. I would imagine the football centric states like Texas, Cal, Florida, do the the same.

@slick1ru2 @DouglasMaher Agreed. Stealing away from the popularity of high school ball in football factory states is a bad idea. The NFL needs to respect the players who will someday be filling the league. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
