Mariano Rivera receives achievement award before World Series Game 2
The all-time saves leader joked with Bud Selig about taking one more farewell tour through the NL next season, but said that he was confident in his decision to end his career after 19 seasons with the Yankees:
“I don’t think it’s hard when you make up your mind,” Rivera said. “I give everything that I have in the tank. So I have nothing left. So if you see me like this, and you think I can play, I will tell you that I can’t play no more, because I have nothing left.”
Selig applauded Rivera for the way he carried himself throughout his MLB career and said he was confident Rivera’s record of 652 career saves would ‘stand the test of time’.
