Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning missed practice on Wednesday to tend to an ankle injury but will return to the field on Thursday to get ready for a matchup on Sunday against the Washington Redskins.

Broncos beat reporter Mike Klis of the Denver Post tweeted Wednesday to clarify that Manning was held out of practice because of an ankle injury and not, as had been speculated, because of issues with his arm. Manning was sacked four times on Sunday in the team’s road loss to his former Indianapolis Colts, including one sack by linebacker Robert Mathis that Manning told the media after the game was “a good hit, a healthy one.”

Klis said the Broncos (6-1) expect Manning to play Sunday against Washington (2-4) despite the seemingly minor ankle injury.

The 12-time Pro Bowler and four-time MVP joined a number of other Broncos who missed practice on Wednesday, including: wide receivers Wes Welker and Eric Decker; guard Chris Kuper; tackle Orlando Franklin; cornerback Champ Bailey; tight end Joel Dreessen; and linebacker Shaun Phillips.

I'm not a Bronco fan, but I've always found Peyton Manning a really classy person. Wishing a quick recovery for all the injured players of all teams

The future begins to darken for the Geldings.

Ouch, just heard on sports radio that he's out for the year. Get well soon.
