Lions cut TE Tony Scheffler
The Detroit Lions have released Tony Scheffler after the tight end missed the team’s last two games with a concussion, the team announced Tuesday.
Scheffler had played in five games with one start this year before suffering a concussion against the Packers, and missing the team’s next two games. Scheffler was expected to be the team’s second tight end going into the season, but the early season success of Joseph Fauria has limited his playing time.
The eight-year veteran has been with the Lions since the 2010 season and will receive the remainder of his $1.95 million contract.
