Minnesota Vikings quarterback Josh Freeman will start Sunday vs. the Green Bay Packers, according to a tweet Tuesday afternoon from ESPN’s SportsCenter.

The 25-year-old got his first start with the Vikings on Monday in a 23-7 loss on the road to the New York Giants. Freeman became just the second quarterback ever to attempt 50 passes but throw for fewer than 200 yards and fail to toss a touchdown. All told, he completed 37.7 percent of his passes and averaged 3.58 yards per attempt.

Earlier in October, the Vikings signed Freeman to a one-year deal after he was released just days earlier by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In September, it had been reported that Freeman entered a drug rehab facility.

Minnesota could elect to go with quarterbacks Matt Cassel or Christian Ponder if Freeman remains on the wrong side of history. The Vikings are currently 1-5 and at the bottom of the NFC North heading into Sunday’s matchup vs. the Packers, who lead the division with a 4-2 record.

Josh brought a note in from his mother on Wednesday asking for Josh to be excused from Sunday's game because he is not feeling well.  Josh said he might have a concussion ... how he never was hit in the Giants game ... he thinks it happened in the 3rd quarter and did not tell anybody ...  THINKS!!! ... you don't think about things like that, you know and are usually laid out on the field for a while.

He might have head problems but I doubt if they are related to concussions ... maybe Schiano caused it or depression from all that was said about him since Monday's fiasco.

It's funny that Schiano is the root of Freeman's problem, when Schiano has only been around Tampa for a little over a year.  I have watched Freeman for going on 5 years ... Freeman was a bum, is a bum and will always be a bum ... if his passes are within 5 yards of a receiver than he missed him by a hair in Josh's eyes.

The Vikes are a team that has given up.  GB has been there.  They'll be rebuilding for years to change that.

Extraordinary effort for one QB to get TWO teams to vie for the number one draft pick! Awesome.

slow your roll he has to learn the O routes and calls. I have watched him since college. plus your O line really sucks. besides it is not like your team will make the play offs. let see how he does in a few more weeks .

Where are all those very vocal fans who defended Freeman in TB? Great trade they said, he'll be great in Minn! It was all Schiano's fault! Bully, bad guy! Where are those fans today??!

Horrible Quarterback....take 2.

Could anyone blame Adrian Petersen if he asked to be traded? The Vikings are five years from being competitive - at best.

If the vikes go winless at the dome this season, the vikings players and coaches deserve cancer for that.

Freeman should be packing grocery's at Walmart, The Viking do not need more bad QBs they already have 3 others . Wait until the draft and save some salary cap. this season is done.

Good call.  He needs to start and play the rest of the season, regardless, so the Vikes will know what they have in him.  No one with half a brain would stake a qualitative assessment of him based on last night's fiasco - he'd had 13 days with the team, it was patently idiotic to start him last week.  Plus when you see how awful the receivers were (never seen so many dropped passes by our WRs) and the gawd-awful play-calling (also noted in last night's SI blog), it's hard to imagine that he did as well as he did.  Looking forward to seeing him for Sunday night's big tilt.  SKOL!!!

I'll take the Packers and give you 50 points.

Because he did so well against the Giants...

Face it, the Vikes have pretty much burned the QB position. After acquiring Freeman they cannot afford not to play him. And at this point in the season they can't sit him on the sideline while he digests the playbook. They can't turn back to Ponder or Cassel. They have to pretend as if Freeman is part of some genius solution to their problem and gut out the rest of the season.

Frazier has positioned himself to look for work either some time during this season or by the start of the next.

Minnesota is killing it. Not like A.P.s son

Maybe Josh Freeman just needs glasses; either that, or 12 foot tall wide receivers.

Did the Vikings announce this on the Comedy Channel? Freeman stunk it up playing a bad team, what do you think is going to happen on the against the Green Bay Packers?

The Vikings are making the Jets seem competent and stable.

Nice to have Lacey, but can you imagine having Petersen in GREEN & GOLD???

Besides having a top notch RB on our side it would be revenge of sort to see him in GREEN & GOLD and playing against pukey PURPLE.  Just to see the reaction of Viqueen fans would be worth the price of a ticket.  Boomer in Guam.

@JustinBeiberIsAFag you sound like a reasonable fellow and your screen name reinforces that assumption.

Your avatar is great though.

@RomarioDelLago Agree.  At this point they have to give him a long look.  By signing him they have already indicated that they have given up on Ponder and Cassel, unless they are forced to go back to one of them, likely Ponder.  Freeman has effective in the past and shown NFL level skills.   If they can get him back to form, he's their best chance for the future.

That's ridiculous. Why start a guy who hasn't been with the team for two weeks, then have him throw 50+ passes? All while only giving AP 14 carries?!? Freeman clearly was not ready, and of course 13 days is not enough time to fix his horrible throwing mechanics (there may not be enough time over the rest of the decade to do that though).

Frazier just signed his own pink slip.

@DennyCrane Pretty much what I came to post.  Benching him now just makes zero sense.  One starts to wonder if any of the QBs will be with the team in 2014.

@bulletrico He sucks?  I thought  it was pretty well established by those with eye-sight (at least).  LOL
