Bill Belichick says Jets also pushed on field goals

NFL
Patriots' Head Coach Bill Belichick says the Jets are also guilty of illegal pushing on FG attempts.

New England Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick said that the Jets were guilty of the same penalty that cost the Pats Sunday’s game, according to Seth Walden of the New York Daily News.

The controversy over the NFL’s new rule about pushing a teammate at the line of scrimmage, which was put in place this offseason and enforced for the first time in overtime of the Pats-Jets game on Sunday, has yet to die down. When Belichick was asked about reports that Jets’ players had told the refs to look out for players pushing before their failed 56-yard field goal attempt, the coach responded by saying:

“Well, I mean, since they were using the play themselves I don’t even know about all that.”

The Jets went on to win Sunday’s game with a 42-yard field goal after the 15-yard penalty was enforced.

Busted for cheating, again. Quit with the sour grapes Belichump, you lost.

Jets can't win legally so they have to cheat and whine to the refs about the Big, Bad Patriots.  Seems like every team including the Jets was getting away with pushing teammates into the line on Field Goal attempts so why call it against the Patriots at the most important point in the game unless the refs had it out for the Pats and were trying to make a bogus example of them just as they did during the bogus Spygate.  Every team was videotaping and every team was pushing on Field Goal attempts.  What a joke.

400+ FGs/Extra Points have been kicked this season - first time this has been called in OT non the less.  Enough said.

Love how none of the ignorant Jets fans don't mention how their team players cried and bit*ched to the Refs how some Pats players push when them, themselves did the exact same thing....lmao. Wow! talk about the pot calling the kettle black. But I can understand why the Jets players did it. Their team sucks and loses game after game so they had to find a way to win at least 3 games this year.

What a sniveling little ba$tard.  My God.  All this from a no good cheating SOB (proven).

Not every hold gets called. Not every interference gets called. Belicheat's team intentionally cheated and got caught.  Poor Bill.

The old "everyone else is doing it" defense that seemingly worked with the video cheating thing.  In light of that, I guess one can't blame him for playing that card although it does make him sound petty, whiny, and lousy.

Two words for you Belichik.......... Tuck rule........ Now imagine this was a Championship game... how much would Mr Belichik whine then...???

was a bush call by the refs.  having said that, coach bill should move beyond the loss...

So sick of Belichik and the rest of the New England Whiny Asses.  YOU LOST...get over and face it.. You are BEYOND lucky to by 5-2 right now.   The record should be reversed but since it isn't, be happy that you have a winning record when you are the worst winning record team in the NFL.

Wow! You haters are so whiny that you jump at the opportunity to misrepresent the above article just to make an excuse to do more whining.  Why don't you go take an English class, then come back a read the above article again.  Maybe you'll get it right.  Belichick was simply asked a question about the Jets players "tattling" (which they did do).  His response was simply to point out that the Jets players were "the pot calling the kettle black" (i.e. in other words, it's interesting the Jets would tell the refs about the Patriots pushing players when the Jets were doing it too).  Besides, in another press release he admitted that the call was valid and he took responsibility for not better educating his players.  Get some new material people.

What a freaking crybaby Belichick is. Perhaps the tarnishing of his "genius" legacy due to eight years without a Super Bowl win (and two losses in the Super Bowl in that timeframe) is getting to him.

Based on the comments below, looks like Bill (and the Pats) crushed, hammered and annihilated most of the teams these guys are fans of. Jealousy is understandable.

If this had been any other team this wouldn't have been news after Sunday.  But it is the Pats so we have to beat this dead horse a little further.

@x72 if that was cheating....so isn't holding, pass interference, off sides, running into the kicker, blocking below the knees...etc...a penalty yes, cheating  hardly

A bad call is a bad call.  Whether it favors New England or not.  You are right though if it was called the other way any fan base would be fuming.

It's a penalty.  It was called.  Patirots lost.   Enough said and done.

@MMoney0021 And if it were called on another team other than your Pats your comments would be along the line of "It's about time"....especially if called in favor of Bill.

MMoney0021

@Grumpy Gumbo The Jets tend to cry about something every time they catch a beating by the Patriots.  2007 cry "spygate", last year after they lost their first game to NE cried about the no huddle offense being illegal, then butt fumbled their way to another blow out loss in the second game.  This year they cry in OT about the Pats defensive players pushing each other to block the kick on what would have been a 56 yard attempt.  Its funny, but whats even funnier is that they are in second place.

Grumpy Gumbo

@mbroncofan Ugh, why do parents let their ignorant children play on the internet. broncofan please leave the comments to the big boys. Worry about your own team that just got exposed by the Colts.

Grumpy Gumbo

@JeanDeaux Wah wah wah is what you will doing when the Jets are on the outside looking in when playoff time comes around and the Pats have another AFC East Championship chump.

Grumpy Gumbo
Grumpy Gumbo

@RobertSmith Haters like you have no Education on what really goes on in Football. Just ask the Jets are cheating or is it tripping. Now stop crying, we all know how bad your team (Jets) sucks and lose year in and year out while the Pats do nothing but win.

Grumpy Gumbo
Grumpy Gumbo

@StacyHutchens Love to see knuckleheads like you bring up something that happened 12 years ago. I bet you still cry over your first BF breaking your heart....lmao

Grumpy Gumbo
Grumpy Gumbo

@Chuckster So sick of haters like you that do nothing but bit*ch and complain about the Pats because they do nothing but win while your team looks in the shadows. Come playoff time the Pats again will be there while the Jets will be playing golf. I know it must hurt to see the Pats win year in and year out while your Jets just keep losing and losing and losing. Pats are 5-2 with a team that has lost it's best Defensive players and an Offense that couldn't beat my sons peewee football team. Can you imagine what they will be like when they get their act together......lol. Pats 2013 SB Champs baby.

KevinDoucette
KevinDoucette

@Chuckster I know you hate the Patriots but that's just a stupid comment. Maybe 4-3 but the Pats defense has been good all year up to the Jets game. They deserve to be 5-2 as they are. No reason to hate

Chuckster
Chuckster

@waldmann4 Belichik is the CLEARLY the whiner.  His team got caught (again) and they were called on it.  Refs miss penalities on EVERY play.  They DIDN'T miss this one.  Oh...and here's the bottom line....the Patriots STILL lost.  They were CLEARLY outplayed ALL DAY and should consider themselves lucky to even have a SHOT at the win.

Chuckster
Chuckster

@SpenceThompson @x72 It's not cheating.  They tried to get away with it and didn't. Just like holding or PI.  It's a penalty and they were called for it.  End of story.

MMoney0021
MMoney0021

What infuriates the Pats and the fans are the exact stat I just showed above.  People have a hard time figuring out how something like that has not been called prior to week 7 of the NFL.  Its a tick tack call that affected the outcome of what was a good game.  I better see it being called going forward.

Chuckster
Chuckster

@MMoney0021 It's the RIGHT call, not a bad call.  The fact that it gave the Jets another opportunity is what PO's the Pats fans.  The fact that they converted the opportunity is what infuriates them.

Chuckster
Chuckster

@KevinDoucette @Chuckster Now THAT was a stupid comment.  In their 1st 7 games, the mighty Pats have faced 3 rookie QBs,Josh Freeman and banged up Falcons and the teams they have beaten have a combined record of 17-21.   Impressive.   I thoroughly despise Belichik and Brady.  Don't hate the Pats.  Guaranteed had that call not been made or the situation reversed, Billy boy would be singing a different tune about the call.  I can hear it now, ":Well the call is what it is they shouldn't complain".  "It was a good and the right things were done to protect the players"

Chuckster
Chuckster

@MMoney0021 I'll guarantee you it's called again and at some point on the Pats too.  It's new and where as the pushing and shoving as every player fights for the ball (they have a right to) on a Hail Mary rarely gets called, this penalty will be.  Just so happens, the Patriots had the privilege of launching it on it's maiden voyage.

MMoney0021
MMoney0021

This is why this play is still being talked about 3 days later by every media outlet out there.  Correct call.  Yes I cannot argue that.

MMoney0021
MMoney0021

The ref knew the minute he was throwing that flag it was going to result in a 15 yard penalty and a first down for the Jets on a play where the probability of the kick being good from 56 yards was slim (Folks career long of 53), not to mention the amount of shoving that goes on in the trenches.

Again I go back to throwing a pass interference flag on a Hail Mary.  Extremely low probability of winning or tying a game on that play yet if a flag is thrown that team gets the ball at the 1 yard line.  Which is why pass interference which happens on almost every single Hail Mary is called maybe 1% of the time. This is basically what happened to the Patriots.  They were the 1%.

Chuckster
Chuckster

@MMoney0021 Had to happen sometime.  Could very easily have been called against the Jets or any of the other 30 teams especially since Bill said it was happening and you have clearly reviewed all 400 or so PATs/FGs to confirm your suspicions.  You know,  Pats fans know, EVERYONE knows that it is a penalty and for whatever reason (like...doing his job)  the official called it.  If you don't want to be called for it....don't do it.

MMoney0021
MMoney0021

@Chuckster @KevinDoucette Chuckster if you havent been watching - 6 out of 7 of the Pats games have come down to the fourth quarter or OT.  By your logic they should have lost 5 out of 6.  But won 4 out of 6 with a cluster of key injuries.

Chuckster
Chuckster

@rwidger Even better, take that one win away and the combined record is even worse.

MMoney0021
MMoney0021

@Chuckster @KevinDoucette Chuckster funny how you mention the "banged up Falcons" but fail to acknowledge that New England has been missing impact players on both sides of the ball ALL SEASON yet in spite of that are STILL 5-2 and STILL in FIRST PLACE.  Gronk, Amendola, Talib, Mayo, Vince, Vereen, Connley, Slater, Kelly the list can go on and on.  Either way only 2 of these guys are not coming back.  I can promise you baring any more injuries from now until their bye week, you will see a different team in November and December.  Love having the next 2 at home btw before the bye week.

That's funny how your summary of the season has no mention of the unbeaten Saints.  Good job.
