The Colts’ fears came true Monday morning when MRI results confirmed that wide receiver Reggie Wayne tore his right ACL against the Broncos, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Wayne injured his right knee while twisting for an Andrew Luck pass midway through the fourth quarter of the Colts’ 39-33 win. NBC reported Wayne was fighting back tears as he was helped off the field.

After the game, Luck stepped up and accepted the blame for Wayne’s injury:

“It was my fault,” Luck said. “Terrible throw. We know he’s a fighter. We’re hoping for the best.”

Wayne, 34, is the Colts’ leading receiver with 38 receptions for 503 yards and two touchdowns. He hasn’t missed a game since his rookie season in 2001, and owns the NFL’s longest streak among active players having played in 189 consecutive games.

The Colts could look to trade for a receiver before the Oct. 29 deadline and add to a corps that includes Darrius Heyward-Bey and T.Y. Hilton.
