Bears QB Jay Cutler out at least 4 weeks with torn groin muscle
The Chicago Bears announced Monday that quarterback Jay Cutler will miss at least four weeks with a torn groin muscle.
The team was reportedly preparing for bad news about the injury, according to the Chicago Tribune. The diagnosis of a torn muscle seemed to confirm its fears.
Cutler was injured on a sack by the Redskins’ Chris Baker during the second quarter of the Bears’ 45-41 loss Sunday to the Redskins. He could be seen grimacing in pain as he limped off the field. ESPN reports Cutler was seen on the back of a cart being driven away toward one of the FedEx Field exits.
Backup quarterback Josh McCown completed 14-of-20 passes for 204 yards, including a fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Martellus Bennett.
The Bears reportedly have already called quarterback Jordan Palmer to the team’s headquarters Monday. Palmer played well for the team during the preseason.
