Tracy McGrady admitted in a recent interview that there were points in his career that he thought about using performance-enhancing drugs, though he said that he never did “cross that line.”

As the injuries piled up in McGrady’s 15-year NBA career — which officially ended with his retirement in August — McGrady said that he thought about using PEDs to get his body and his confidence back on track.

“I’ve never said this to nobody,” McGrady told NBA TV’s Open Court. “Because I was playing at such a high level for so many years, and when I had my knee injury, I was doing everything in my will power to get back to that level. Naturally, I couldn’t do it. Because I just didn’t have the strength, I didn’t have the confidence, and I just didn’t believe that I was going to get there doing it naturally.

“I actually considered getting an advantage. And whatever that was, doing it illegally — I considered that to get back.”

What ultimately made him decide against using the performance-enhancing drugs, he said, was researching potential side effects.

McGrady’s injury issues — particularly with his knees — flared up during the latter stages of his career. After undergoing arthroscopic surgery in both his left shoulder and knee in the summer of 2008, he never averaged more than 20 points per game over the course of a season. He also played in more than 50 games in just two of the five seasons that followed his 2008 surgery.

@JoePhenorkee, I saw the hour long show, and TMAC was the one that brought it up.  Open Court (EJ, Charles, Kenny, Rick Fox, Steve Kerr, Dominique and TMAC) was discussing PEDs when TMAC volunteered that bit of information.  It wasn't something anyone questioned him specifically about.

Interesting why did the reporter even bring this up? A pre-interview where T said something?
