The NHL suspended St. Louis Blues forward Maxim Lapierre for five games without pay for boarding San Jose Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle during Tuesday night’s game, the league announced.

Lapierre will lose $28,205.15 in salary and will miss two games against Winnipeg, plus contests versus Vancouver, Nashville, and Florida.

The incident occurred in the in first period of the Sharks 6-2 victory, when Lapierre was assessed a major penalty for checking from behind. He also received a game misconduct.

Lapierre already has served one game of this suspension while awaiting an in-person hearing that was convened this afternoon, the league said.
