LeBron James rips ex-Celtics over Ray Allen

When Ray Allen left the Boston Celtics in 2012 to take his three-point shooting talent to South Beach to join the Miami Heat, some Celtics, namely Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, weren’t too pleased.

Garnett and Pierce are no longer in Boston, having been traded to the Brooklyn Nets in a blockbuster deal in the offseason.

Some in the Heat organization wonder why Allen got so much criticism for leaving Boston in search of another championship and perceived Garnett and Pierce’s actions to be hypocritical.

“I think the first thing I thought was, ‘Wow, Ray got killed for leaving Boston and now these guys are leaving Boston,’” Heat forward LeBron James said to ESPN.com.

“I think it’s OK, I didn’t mind it. But there were a couple guys who basically (expletive) on Ray for leaving and now they’re leaving. That’s the nature of our business, man. I don’t know what Boston was going through at the end of the day. I know Ray had to make the best decision for him and his family and his career. Doc, KG and Paul did that as well. You can’t criticize someone who does something that’s best for their family.”

GOLLIVER: Best-case, worst-case scenarios for every Eastern Conference team

The Nets play the Heat in their home opener on Nov. 1.

Nothing tops lebron running out on Cleveland without delivering their "promised" bling.

While it's true that the scenarios regarding Ray Allen leaving Boston and Pierce and Garnett were different, Allen was also on the trading block at different times during the preceding two years, and I don't recall Garnett speaking up publicly to criticize Celtics management.  Allen had gotten pushed to the bench, and it was apparent that the days of true title contention were gone in Boston. Allen made the best decision for himself. Did he owe it to Garnett to go to a losing team, so he wouldn't possibly be on a team that blocked Garnett from getting another ring?  Garnett can be a jerk. He's consistent, but a jerk.  LeBron, while not having the facts totally straight, is right in spirit for defending Allen.

Were Pierce and Garnett traded over their objections or because they said they wanted out?

The criticism of Allen was absurd in any event, as the Celtics had made it clear he would be the 4th or 5th guard in the rotation.

One small detail, LeBron: Pierce and Garnett were TRADED.

As a Boston fan, Allen was not helping the Celts much when he left.  He would have 1 good shooting game then maybe 2 bad ones.

Didn't KG waive his no-trade clause to be moved? And then Pierce admit that he convinced KG to do so?

@XCBeza If KG didn't agree to be traded, the whole trade never would of went through
