Notre Dame junior defensive end Stephon Tuitt announced Wednesday that he plans on returning for his senior season, reports the Observer, Notre Dame’s student newspaper.

Tuitt, listed at 6-foot-6 and 322 pounds, has recorded 18 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and three sacks for the Fighting Irish (4-2) this season.  He also has seven quarterback hurries and one forced fumble.

“I’m coming back next year,” Tuitt said. “I’m a junior. I still have one year.”

He had a huge 2012 season, helping the Irish reach the National Championship game.  He had 47 tackles and 12 sacks a year ago.

Tuitt was thought to be a first-round draft pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.  He is rated as high as No. 14 according to a Scouts, Inc. list of the top 32 prospects in the country.

Tuitt's good but he's not all-world. Not yet.

Smart, very smart.  Some players understand the value of an education, that an NFL career is limited, and a person needs a career.  Plus the value of another year of maturity on their bodies and more experience. The discussions need to be on what is best for a person, and not on signing bonuses.  When players quit school to turn pro, the only real winners are the NFL owners and the agents.

I am glad he is returning, he needs another year of work especially since he has been battling back from his surgery. Hopefully he can convince Louis to do the same but this is a big win for ND if it sticks! Thanks Stephon!
