The entire Grambling State football team skipped practice Wednesday, a day after the players walked out of a meeting with school administrators, reports the Shreveport Times.

The report states that the football players are upset with the way they are being treated.

DOHRMANN: Financial woes and infighting threaten Grambling football program

Tempers flared at a meeting with Grambling president Frank Pogue, athletic director Aaron James, interim coach George Ragsdale and student government president Jordan Harvey.

The meeting was called to discuss why the team traveled by bus to games in Kansas City and Indianapolis.

Grambling fired coach Doug Williams last month after the team lost their first two games this season by a combined score of 71-19.

The team is 0-7 this year, after a 48-0 loss to Alcorn State last week. The team had a 1-11 record in 2012.

More from the Shreveport Times:

University spokesman Will Sutton said the meeting was intended to show the administration’s support for the team and said “some” players left.

“(The administration) knew that emotions were raw,” Sutton said. “No matter what, it was going to be a challenge for the team to feel good after this season and last season.

“That’s part of the reason why we have a new (athletics director) and are looking for a new football coach. The president wanted to make a point that the university supports and appreciates the team and these students, and that the administration will do everything we need to do for the future success of the program.

Has President Obama been made aware of this crisis?  Perhaps he can offer some advice to help.

If Grambling can't afford to fly, play teams nearby only as a bus trip.  If they're really in financial bind, drop to non-scholarship status like the Pioneer Football League schools and play as an independent against nearby teams that do not have scholarships or the full allotment of scholarships.

Worst case scenario, drop the sport if the money isn't there.

It's strange financial problems are occurring now.  That's suppose to be budgeted out in the offseason so there's surprises and no discomfort during the season.

Oh nooooo.............. It is racist!!!   No doubt about it.......if the coach was white, this would not happen............this is UN-American! Has the raist quoto been met? I would be pissed too.  The administration rolls the team out in front of the big boys knowing that they are going to get demolished.  They kindly take the big payoff and bus the banged up kids back home only to do it again next Saturday. If they are truly rebuilding they would schedule teams that Grambling would be competitive with. But they want and need the bigger payoffs.  Its about money and the players know it.  If the administration is gonna serve them up on a platter to the big boys, the least they could do is give them comfortable transportation to and from.  The human psych is very fragile and once it is damaged it can be a very difficult process to correct.

Grambling Probably ran out of Banana's as snacks and Grambling University food stamp allotment ran out and there were no neck bones and chitlins and watermelons at training table.

A team that goes 1-11 and then 0-7 clearly has more than 1 problem.  Louisiana to KC or Indy by bus does seem likely to be very uncomfortable, especially for large guys.  Combining the two facts, perhaps Grambling is scheduling its games against teams which are too good and too distant for its team, but let Grambling get a big payment? Many unprofitable teams endure lopsided road losses to make money.

THEY TOOK BUSES FROM GRAMBLING TO GAMES IN KC AND INDY ?????   I'd be ticked off too.  Glad to see they took a stand and did it as a team.....

LOL. How did I know after reading this story that there would be a majority of racist, redneck, inbred, back woods jimbob's making predictable comments. Bravo!

Grambling doesn't matter in football or Academia. Just a jungle school turning out fake degrees that are worthless. Not sure if Grambling plays football or even has a field. Guess most of Grambling is a welfare school supported by Uncle Sam to keep some folks happy.

If they don't like the way their being treated give up scholarship and let someone who wants to play get the opportunity

The players are taking a stand on how they are being treated. This is just what we teach people to do. Stand up for oneself. I support them. And they've gotten the attention they wanted. Things will change, and that was the point of the exercise.

It is probably a 10 hour bus ride to Kansas City and a 12 hour one to Indianapolis.  Not sure that I'd be thrilled with either of those either!

So the players want to run the school?  Sounds like prison inmates rioting for better conditions after being convicted of crimes against society........  This society is definitely headed south.

Well for those who don't know this school has the most wins of any NCAA  div I or II (FBS I know) school, more that FSU, and now more than Penn State (thanks to the vacate of wins).  Its hosted pro teams such as the NY Yankees on its baseball field and sent several men to the Pro's.  So for the Alumni and those who know the significance of this its heart breaking.     Doug had 3 or 4 winning seasons at the school where he won it all but the past 2 well speak for themselves.  I hope they find the right coach to bring it back to respectable competition.

Shut it down! You have a program bleeding money and treasonous players. Shut it down completely and clean house.

Maybe these Jock bozos will realize that they're ACTUALLY at college to "LEARN" stuff and get a degree - not play football for a crappy mid-level school.  Of course these are football players so the average IQ isn't terribly high anyway, but still....

It's Grambling football as if that joke matters?  A bunch of meaningless blacks in a black school playing football at a low level and getting some crap education from professors at the bottom of the educational rung. Get rid of them.

This reminds me of what Branch Rickey said when Ralph Kiner wanted to hold out from the Pirates:  "We finished last with you; we can finish last without you."

It does not matter what their record is.  They can not build a team with out getting recruits. Recruits will go some place else knowing that they will have to ride buses for long trips because the school is to cheap to fly the team. Grambling has been on a downward spiral over the last few years. It will take a complete overhaul of the schools administration to right the ship.

How you 1-18 and complaining about riding the bus? They should make them walk to the game.

Great QB != great coach.  Too bad because this school really has a great winning tradition.

@joeshine730 That's one of the nastiest posts I've read anywhere, in a really long time … let me guess, joeshine is a tea bagger and he's still pouting?

@Phil.Mahweene The players should be thanking the school for continuing to fund the football program.  A couple of long bus rides?  Gimme a break.  The school doesn't owe them anything.

@joeshine730 I guess you don't pay much attention to football, if you don't know who Eddie Robinson is, you're a joke. But according to your post, you're an uneducated, ignorant, backwards, redneck, joke. My guess is that you're just jealous because you were unable to earn a degree, and you certainly weren't taught properly at home. In fact, I'm surprised you know how to use a computer. So turn off your dial up modem, disconnect your PC from your trailer wall, and go to the library. For about $1.50 in late fees, you can modernize your brain.

@JJjamison I agree.  Grambling was a class school with a great program and an amazing legacy.  Looks like it's sort of hit the bottom, as have many other programs over time.  I agree … hope they can resurrect the tradition.

@joeshine730 Their football team isn't good this year.  That's the only thing in your comment with any truth to it.

@joeshine730 Wow I didnt know their education was crappy. I seem to be doing very well for myself,  working at in a Top Fortune 500 Company and all for somebody who just graduated from Grambling  recently. Its sad to see that we have negative people looking down on people for no apparent reason. I pray God helps you.

@donald5 @joeshine730 Because he is trash, that is why. And a coward, he wouldn't spout his mouth off like that in front of the "meaningless blacks". Coward.

@joeshine730 I wouldn't normally say anything but I would expect an individual who espouses higher education would know when a question mark should and shouldn't be used.

@Rolo08 @joeshine730 What is a "Top Fortune 500 Company"?..is that a Fortune 50? Fortune 200? or are you making 500 Fortune Cookies a day?

@Rolo08 @joeshine730 No offense, but you were probably hired not because of your academic knowledge, but a racial preference program.

The != is a computer programming, engineering and logic symbol to represent "not equal".

So saying that just because Doug Williams was a great QB doesn't mean he iwould be a great coach.
