When Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay told USA Today earlier this week that the team “changed (their) model a little bit” because the Colts wanted more than one Super Bowl championship during ex-Colts quarterback Peyton Manning‘s 14-year tenure in Indianapolis, it caught the attention of Denver Broncos head coach John Fox.

Manning returns to Indianapolis this Sunday to play the Colts for the first time since he was released in March 2012.  The Colts selected Andrew Luck with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft the next month.

Fox said Irsay’s comments “disappointing and inappropriate.”

Irsay said his comments were taken out of context.

“Fox, I have great respect for him,” Irsay said. “I don’t think that the comments, however they came back to people, I know they were misperceived.”

BURKE: Colts-Broncos media dust-up is more about Bill Polian, less about Peyton Manning

Manning, who leads the NFL with 22 touchdown passes this season, wanted nothing to do with the controversy.

“I don’t have anything to say about either one of those,” Manning said, according to NFL.com.

Manning was then was asked if his relationship with Irsay had been strained or remains the same.

 “No, I can’t. And I won’t,” Manning added.

It's hardly a feud; Irsay just spoke the truth and Fox feels the need to shore up his qb's tender psyche with some faux outrage.

If I was Irsay I might be a bit unhappy too. He surrounded Manning with talent, the Colts racked up the wins in the regular season, Manning padded his stats plenty, and then in nearly every post season Manning pulled a one-and-none in the post season. The Colts were allegedly a dynasty and for all that Manning has as many SB rings as Trent Dilfer.

Of course Manning didn't take the bait. He is the epitome of class. Irsay is total jerk. Out of context? How does Irsay expect us to believe he meant that had he given Manning a better D and special teams he would have had more SB rings when he directly compared how many rings Manning has to Brady? He didn't mention Brady's special teams or defense as a reason why he has 3 rings.

Peyton knows how the media works and smartly has decided not to play their stupid game.

Peyton has more class in his pinkie than Irsay does in his entire body.

Reporters are constantly egging athletes on to create controversy. Low-life azz-wholes for the most part, like everybody else in the news-muckraking business. They pray for explosions, murders, personal feuds...anything to get their face on TV. Disgusting. I don't know why athletes even speak to ANYBODY in the press...except for "no comment"...just like Peyton. With millions in sponsorship deals at stake, Manning can't afford ANY controversy. Other athletes would be wise to follow their lead, and pretty soon these scum-sucking reporters who beg for controversy would no longer be employed.

Class act from start to finish.  This guy knows when to keep his mouth shut.  Someone in the White House could learn a lesson or two.

"I heard the Washington Redskins are so embarrassed about their name, they've decided to drop it...that is, they're going to be known as just The Redskins."

 Now THAT is funny  :-)
