FIFA gives lifetime bans to 14 El Salvador players
FIFA has banned 14 members of the El Salvador national soccer team for life for engaging in match fixing, according to the Associated Press.
The players are believed to have fixed four international contests, including a 2-1 loss to the United States in a 2010 friendly match, as well as 5-0 loss to Mexico in the 2011 Gold Cup.
The players had already been suspended by the El Salvador soccer sanctioning body, which also stopped all operations involving the senior national team last month.
FIFA also handed down a six-month and an 18-month ban to two other El Salvador players tied to the match fixing.
