Following the Houston Texans’ 38-13 loss on Sunday, teammates came to the defense of quarterback Matt Schaub after the Reliant Stadium crowd cheered as he writhed in pain on the field with an ankle injury.

Cornerback Johnathan Joseph delivered the strongest message, via SportsRadio 610′s Paul Gallant: “They gonna do that, don’t show the f– up.”

Backup quarterback T.J. Yates, who threw an interception for a 98-yard Rams touchdown on his first drive after relieving Schaub, called the reaction “disrespectful” and said it makes him “unbelievably mad,” according to SportsRadio 610′s Will Grubb.

Linebacker Brian Cushing called it “barbaric.”

Schaub has come under fire in Houston after the Texans’ 2-3 start in which threw nine interceptions, including a pick-six in four straight games. He even had to call team security earlier this week when fans showed up to his house, took pictures of his family and reportedly yelled at him.

On Sunday, Schaub completed 15 of 21 passes for 186 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions before exiting during the third quarter. The Texas were down 31-6 at the time of the injury.

Going through more of these posts from the texans fans. You guys are horrible. If you guys think you are better then Schaub go apply for his job. I realize they all make too much money but you guys are sad pieces of work. And they say yankees are rude. I believe Texans are rude. I have tickets for the Patriots and Houston game in December and I sure hope some of you fans don't act like that.  Sad people sad!!!!!!

I am not a Texans fan at all. I live in texas now but I am a PATRIOTS FAN. Yes a PATRIOTS FAN and a true one. Look at the injuries and the receivers that we have lost. But with that said you stick with your team and support them through the good and bad. It is heart breaking when you have a great team like the PATRIOTS which you Texans well know and now they have issues but every team at some time has issues. The Texans were a good team last year and probably will be again. Give your team a chance and be a true fan and support all your players. That is so rude to boo your quarterback or any other players. Have respect for another person. This world is going to .... A true patriots fan for sure!!!!!!!!!!!

I will never watch a Texans game as long as schuab plays and that stupid coach are with the Texans

Only  a few dozen people were cheering his injury, yet every news outlet says "Texans fans cheer Schaub injury."  I call BS on it.

Cheering an injury is classless. But there is a reason usually only teams playing poorly criticism their own fans. It's called deflection.

PLAIN AND SIMPLE, the Texans just SUCK. They suck, along with their sorry fanbase. All they are are wishy washy players who think they will win the Superbowl, but fail badly in the preseason, regular season, and playoffs.

The fact is the Texans are under acheiving along with the coaches and GM . Instead of saying the same ole line were working hard  and have confidence in our QB they say how barbaric us fans are to deflict the real problem they stink !!

I was not cheering Shaub  injury I was cheering when he left. Kubiak should of took him out before it got to 31-6 . Injury yes but it he was not paralized . We saw him trying to walk it off so the Texans need to shut up and play quit worrying about  the fans hurting the feelings of the delicate franchise Q.B and win already.

"He even had to call team security earlier this week when fans showed up to his house, took pictures of his family and reportedly yelled at him."

That sure seems like an extreme account of a SINGLE person driving BY Schaub's home, snapping a photo, and yelling something - again, as a SINGLE Person DROVE-BY..  Not "Fans" - just one guy..  Even Twinkle-Toes Schaub AND Houston Police Dept. BOTH later admitted that there wasn't an "incident"..

Good grief, SI - how about some follow-up reporting?!?!!..

LOL Schaub deserved the boo's... hes playing terrible (that pick 6 that essentially threw the game away against the Seahawks comes to mind), and if I'm a Texans fan, I'd be pissed right off too when their QB can't even perform! Its like any other job... you don't perform, you face the consequences. I don't feel sorry for the Texans or their players and they players should shut the hell up since last time I checked the fans are the ones that provide all the revenue to pay their million dollar salaries. SHUT UP AND PLAY! I would have cheered too if my team's QB was playing like that and the coach didn't have any balls to sit him!

The Team, Coach, Owner, and apparently even Sports Writers are sensationalizing a non-event.  The obviously frustrated Fans at Reliant Stadium WERE NOT cheering a player injury - they WERE cheering a change in the QB position.

It was the Texans' Head Coach, Gary Kubiak who put everyone in that no-win situation by continuing to start a QB who has proven time and again to have the facilities of, at best, a good Back-Up QB.
Kubiak has shown no confidence in his team (a Field Goal on the 2rd Line!), no confidence in his QB Back-ups Yates and Keenum (Schaub just set the record of Pick-6 plays), and now no confidence in the Houston fans, as he allows his players to bad mouth them!

There is frustration all over Houston - who has NEVER been to the Super Bowl after years and years of promises, excuses, a new football stadium deal, etc - and now Houston Fans are being blamed for something that was forced on them?!  Enough!

I hope Texans Fans DO listen to Joseph and just stay away - stay away in droves!!

Classless.  Whatever the 'reason' for it, booing an injury is simply classless.

Oh cry for the poor millionaire. They payed for the right to cheer or boo whatever they want. Disagreeing with them doesn't take that right away. I'm not a Texan's fan but can understand their frustration.

J Joe should know about not showing up.  When's the last time you heard J Joe getting an interception?  Yeah I thought so.

Merv

When people mention the Texans from now on they will think of fans cheering an injured player.  Just like when you mention the Eagles people think of fans throwing snowballs with rocks inside at Santa Claus

Schaub has strung together 12 lousy games if you consider the 4 games at the end of last season, two playoff games, and now 6 games this season.  Something happened to him since the 11-1 start last year.  The Fans are fed up and want change.  Our boneheaded coach has ignored the pleas to Start Case Keenum or even God forbid TJ Yates.  The fans are frustrated watching this so-called Superbowl season go down the toilet.  What was heard in the stadium was a sign of relief that we will get a new person at QB...nobody was cheering to see Matt hurt.  He's a nice guy and has a beautiful family and millions in the bank.  He'll be alright.

JJoe shut up and do your job. We pay your salary and you work for the fan, McNair only recycle our cash. At 2 and 4 you loser have no room to talk. Go take an extra long walk off the 61st Street pier.

Who do they think they are? Professional athletes are bought, traded, and sold or released on a whim. Maybe J Joe should shut up or he'll get what he wants. No fans equal no revenue. This Texans team is a joke.

pathetic move by texans players deflecting blame on rightfully angry fans.

pathetic on so many levels. more pathetic than a smattering of drunk fans not cheering that matt was hurt but actually cheering that a new quarterback was playing.

matt wasnt seriously hurt and he is stll getting paid 10s of millions of dollars for not doing his job.

STOP WITH THE FAKE OUTRAGE.

BLAMING FANS = CLASSLESS.

Fans do what fans do.

ITS A SIMPLE FORMULA,

WIN AND DO WELL YOU GET CHEERED.

LOSE AND SUCK AND THEY WILL BOO.

SUCK SO BAD AND STILL KEEP YOUR JOB = FANS WILL REACT ACCORDINGLY.

Fan Reaction = ACCURATE SYMPTOM OF WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH YOUR FRANCHISE.

BLAMING FANS FOR THIS DISASTER IS THE REAL CLASSLESS MOVE HERE.

JennaTexanNation

Its not all the fans its the fair-weather fans. The ones who only stand by the team when they are winning. Trust me im embarrassed to be part of the same fan-base as them. I love my team all day. I will rep til I die.

@RobInstigator I saw the game.  I heard the cheers.  Those cheers were audible through the television.  Cheers that loud aren't made by "a few dozen people."  That was thousands.  An entire section of the stands.  And when Yates came in, the rest of the stadium exploded with cheers.

JennaTexanNation

The reason for us losing that game wasnt Schaub. It was the fumbles & penatlies. Idiot!

garynelson22
garynelson22

@Vick1 Oh yea they shoulda took him out, and put Yates in?  Maybe the coaches know something about the skill level of their players that you don't idiot.  Did you see Yates' performance?

And Shaub's stat line was 186 yards passing, no int's.  He was playing well.

JennaTexanNation

Deserve the boos? Not when he is down & hurt. That pathetic & makes people poor excuses for humans. Your disgusting , just like the fans who booed.

Fenris

@MikeyDislikesIt Maybe deserved the boos, although my dad taught me that you never boo, it's not sportsmanship to boo, ever, so I never do and I taught my kids the same. But, whatever, Schaub doesn't deserve cheers for being injured. That's terrible.

@southpawsugar Yeah I love how the media and players are deflecting the blame on the fans.  Nobody was cheering that Matt was hurt...the just wanted him the F**k off the field, one way or another.

@southpawsugar

To find pleasure in another's pain shows a lack of humanity and a total lack of class. Booing the team when they don't play well is part of the game , saying you are happy someone  is in pain and justifying it because they make more money than you is cs.

fpc123
fpc123

@southpawsugar

What would you know about class? We are not talking about booing for bad play but rejoicing in another's pain. I saw know one blaming the fans for the poor play , only for being hateful and cowardly. Not one of you that rejoiced  would last 2 seconds against a professional football player so you have to take pleasure in them being hurt by an equal. You remind me of the song" My Boyfriends Back ", a hateful person who wants someone hurt that is superior to them so relies on others to do it for them , your a coward.

AaronDunckel

@southpawsugar this isn't about booing or sucking -  its about people cheering an injury.  Which IS classless.  And lay off the caps, dude

@AaronDunckel @southpawsugar Oh, please.. Schaub is making millions, he's fair game, period.. All this hoopla is, is people not wanting to have to ask tough questions (that shoulda been asked 3 years ago).. Like, "why are you such a damn loser, Gary?"..

JacobJones
JacobJones

@AaronDunckel @southpawsugar Here's something else I have never understood?.. Why does ALL CAPS bother people?.. I actually appreciate it, makes it easier to read the lettering..

I've heard people say it's like yelling at people, but... Hello?.. When you are reading something, the tone is up to you, unlike when SOMEONE IS ACTUALLY YELLING AT YOU, and you have no choice.. lol.. You can actually read it as it they are whispering it, lovingly, in your ear, if you so choose..

Or, you can gripe about it, allowing for others to control you, with lettering?.. Why would you allow that?.. lol..

JonathanMiller
JonathanMiller

@Merv @JonathanMiller @southpawsugar First of all the stadium has 70,000+ individuals each with their own motivation.  To say that all, most or even many fans were cheering Schaub's injury assumes a lot.  I was there and I know what I saw in section 137 anyway and people want change, not to enjoy watching another human being in pain.  I'm not a U of H fanboy by any stretch of the imagination but I say give Case Keenum a chance.  He just might be the next Kurt Warner, who knows.
