The NFL suspended New York Jets tight end Kellen Winslow for four games for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, reports NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal.

Winslow leads the Jets with 17 catches and is tied for the team lead with two touchdown receptions this season. Winslow was already listed as doubtful for this week’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and hasn’t practiced all week because of an injured right knee.

Winslow’s suspension will cost him $197,647 in salary. He will be eligible to return Monday, Nov. 4.

“It came as a huge surprise to me when I learned that I tested positive for a banned substance,” Winslow said in a statement. “I have investigated all possible sources since learning of the positive test, including possible medical causes, but frustratingly I do not know the source. I do not take supplements that list any banned ingredients, but NFL policy is very strict, so I am accountable for the results. I sincerely apologize to my teammates, coaches and Jets fans for this situation. I will work extremely hard during this time away from the field and look forward to contributing as soon as the suspension ends.”

BANKS: Week 6 NFL Picks

The next four games for the Jets (3-2) are home against Pittsburgh and New England, at Cincinnati and back home against New Orleans.

“It came as a huge surprise to me when I learned that I" ... will lose four years worth of the average US household income.

Four years of the average US household income.

Nice reaction.

People are messed up. Time to enact a 99% tax on all income over $150k.

It is interesting that we throw stones first rather than to take a long look at ourselves.  We get so upset with PEDS while forgetting how drunk you got at the stadium and how much blow you had during half-time.  Get real, America is hooked on drugs period, not just pro sports.

Well, based off Kellen's performances the banned substances certainly weren't enhancing him.

Wow, it's so sad to see players suspended for taking illegal supplements to enhance their performance... especially when you look back and see it didn't even help lol

Yankees, Mets, Jets, Giants, Rangers, Islanders, Knicks....good thing nysports4life is committed to that term.  That's how long it will be until NYC wins another championship.

Winslow is a total liar.  The only positive out of this for Winslow is that commenter nycsports4life will be able to be Winslow's wide receiver for the next 4 weeks.  Then it will be back to turning tricks for rent money for nycsports4life....well, until he starts telling Eli how he is elite for tips.

That nagger makes $197,647 in four games. That's pretty good money for a nagger. Of course, it probably all just goes on coke and hoes. Silly naggers.

Is it me, or does he look like Vin Diesel?

And here's your annual token NFL PED bust of another irrelevant player.

Since 2004 when MLB instituted its steroid policy: MLB suspensions....43; NFL suspensions....91.

Yet it's MLB with the "real" steroid problem, right?

Another older player trying to extend his career with PEDs.

I'm pretty sure Derrick Mason, for example, did the same thing.  It was interesting how he played till almost 40, and was adamantly against stricter drug testing and immediately retired the season it was introduced.

Some how Pro sports and the American public need to come to some sort of agreement.  I know, the fans won't be considered at all even though they say they do it all for us...

None of the leagues really are doing anything to crack down on this.

They need to really deal with once and for all, either way instead of just catching an occasional "soldier" and pretending to tell us they are going after it.

Yes, I know there are negotiated collective bargaining agreements.  Fine, they come up for renewal.  They have a few times here the last few decades...

Just decide one way or another vs. always the drip, drip, drip we continually receive from the players, the leagues, the press etc...

But Winslow is a soldier a warrior let him take his drugs.

Not a single fan believes his story, and he says it because the NFL is not allowed to comment. The thing is, I suspect a good 30-60% of NFL players are taking banned substances, with most of them doing it knowingly. For some, it might just be adderall, but others are probably pumping HGH and other things regularly.

Kid's a loser, he's been on PEDs since his HS days.

@bill98 Let's see...do I drink alcohol or do drugs at work? Even those known to be "performance" enhancing? I wonder why? Oh...because I would be FIRED.

So you have your head buried in the sand also!  Not excusing Kellen at all just giving a reality check.

@nycsports4life Real tough guy behind the keyboard. I'd give a week's pay to see you say that to him in person. Watching the beat down would be better than any MMA fight ever and well worth the money. But of course, that would never happen, because you're only a keyboard cowboy.

@MattJanosko He has been a strong contributor to a pleasantly surprising Jets season.  The U Miami alum has been a leader on and off the field...ah, that is until now.....

Yeah, cuz so many athletes that come out of "The U" are such good character people.
