Dallas-area charter school Prime Prep Academy announced the firing of co-founder and coach Deion Sanders earlier Friday after Sanders was accused of assaulting the school’s chief financial officer during a campus meeting.

Just hours later, Sanders was re-hired and will be on the sidelines for Prime Prep’s football game tonight, reports WFAA.

Dallas police are investigating the incident and the accusation by Kevin Jefferson.  Jefferson told police he was in a faculty meeting with several administrators and teachers at the school on Wednesday when Sanders became upset that some student athletes were not doing well academically. Jefferson told police:

“He walked back to the back of the classroom to where I was sitting in a desk,” Jefferson told the Morning News. “As he got closer to me, I stood up because he was kind of standing over me and he just kind of kept talking to me and at me and then he just grabbed me by my throat and kind of threw me to the ground. Some people had to get him off of me.”

Sanders told WFAA TV he was upset over the mismanagement of the school and admitted confronting Jefferson, but he denied injuring him.

“Mr. Jefferson and I got into a confrontation about the welfare of these kids. And we’ll get into another one. Until you start taking care of these kids, I’m going to be on a rampage,” said Sanders.

Here’s Prime Prep’s statement on Sanders’ firing from WFAA.com:

“Effective immediately, Deion Sanders is no longer an employee or representative for Prime Prep Academy,” reads the statement, attributed to Superintendent Rachel M. King-Sanders. “Prime Prep is committed to continually improving as an educational institution and it will continue to strive for excellence in every aspect.”

Deion I luv him ,but yall r so right I been watching him on the NFL channel and I am so disappointed in him. he acts like he all that and a bag of chips.he use to be so considerate but here lately he just kind of rude. ALL THE REST OF THE GUYS DEFENDS THEIR FORMER TEAMS 'but him im just over him,AND I WAS ONE OF HIS BIGGEST FANS .Now all he thinks of is himself how disappointed

Deon has ego and maturity issue's.  I watch him on the NFL network and he's always spouting and making cracks that aren't funny.  I think he knows there not funny but cannot control himself.

He also a prior incedent with a student athlete that he "adopted"

He has good intentions, but just not capable for the positions imo.

I like the message this sends to the kids: "If you're rich and famous, the rules don't apply to you."  Yep.  Solid message for these kids to learn.  Who needs accountability, anyway?

Deion would help these kids more by insisting that if they don't perform in the classroom, there will be no opportunity to play on the gridiron.

Maybe the guy deserved it, everyone needs a good beat down every now and then

LOL the haters of Deion are hilarious... "yeah my life stinks, so I'll take this opportunity to bash someone on the web like it means something - even though I dont know all the facts, its still makes me feel better inside"

I Think we all need to turn over some tables and go on a rampage concerning our childrens education. His name and his money is at stake here. If the school fails no one is going to blame the Teachers or administration, its going to allb all on Deon. The man has been at the top for years so mediocre does not sit well with him.

"Sanders became upset that some student athletes were not doing well academically. Jefferson told police"

This is the only part  which truly matters...not that the pencil-necked  idiots on here would recognize that.  It's amazing that the clowns on here who've never played a lick of sports want to trash a guy who was top in his.

If you don't like him on the NFL-Network here's a little secret that a lot of people don't know ...the remote controller has an "off" button ! Another secret....the remote controller also allows you to change the channel.

The only reason clowns use race in an argument or to voice displeasure is because they are so vastly  intellectually or physically inferior .....they think that their skin-color  gives them some type of nebulous superiority . Alert......IT DOESN'T !!

White horses don't run faster than black ones or brown ones or painted ones. Blue cars don't go faster than green ones.  Idiots who use race in arguments however...always tend to be lacking intellectually. Facts confuse them, logic escapes them and I.Q.-level embarrasses them.

Now back to Sanders....the guy became enraged  apparently because  too many kids were not being engaged academically.  Kudos to him!  He wants to make sure that the kids get AN ACTUAL EDUCATION.  An attitude I wish would trickle down to college-football.

The academy is freaking named for Sanders, and he's by far its primary selling point.  Of course they 'unfired' him.  Jefferson is just some nobody.  He's replaceable; Deion Sanders isn't.

"Re-hired" huh?!  This throws more doubt into the entire accusation.  Innocent until proven guilty... or duly tried and convicted (at least beyond a reasonable doubt, right?).

He's got silver in his beard and still behaves like a 17 year old punk. Same Ol' Prime.

Sounds like another incident sparked by a frivolous accusation. Hopefully Prime will be exonerated of all claims.

He should not have been fired in the first place, last time i checked "co-founder" out ranks ANY financial officer even if they have chief in front of their title.(Kansas city aside) Unless pints of blood were lost and or broken bones you move on end of story.. a world of wusses , in turn wussifying our children... which leads to bullies and a lot of lunch money being removed from ones own pockets....

i saw sanders get his butt kicked in high school, so this story made me laugh.   The guy who kicked his butt went into the army, served 24 years, special forces, too many medals, and is now a top security adviser to nuclear sites all over the world.  i called my buddy about this story and we had a good chuckle.  Little D is actually a pretty good guy.

I'll reserve judgment until all the facts are in... tried and convicted.  Even then, I might still be skeptical about this whole thing.  I noticed the Deion haters chimed-in right away.  I hope he stays on the NFL Network.  Deion & Steve Mariucci are great.

Please suspend / fire him from NFL Network.   I can't stand to watch / listen to him and Michael Irving blather at each other, so I never watch NFL Network any more.   Due to Deion's constant presence, it is an inferior product.

I would enjoy more NFL coverage, but having to put up with Sanders is too much to ask.

@bill79 So because he wanted the students to perform better academically he attacked an administrator and you're OK with that. You are one sick person.

@mharris672 Reserving judgment and waiting for the facts of the story?  That kind of behavior will quickly make you an outcast on the www.   You are not going to fit in well at all with the yellers, screamers, pretend eyewitnesses, and hang 'em in the town square types.

AaronDunckel

@UBERTAXTHERICH LOL as the school re-hires deion because they have little to no evidence and his name runs the school

@JoeCabot @mharris672 True... and now suddenly, Deion is "re-hired."  Of course all of this may not be fully resolved or settled yet.
