Sharks teenage sensation Tomas Hertl making it look easy
Nineteen-year-old Tomas Hertl of the San Jose Sharks has played in only three NHL games, but he already has six goals and an assist, including four goals in a 9-2 win over the Rangers on Tuesday night.
Hertl, a center who was the 17th pick in last year’s draft, scored one of the most impressive goals of the young season, when he put the puck between the legs and then flipped it over Rangers goalie Martin Biron’s right shoulder.
Hertl, who said he practices the shot daily, has even impressed himself with his hot start.
“This is a dream,” he said. “This is crazy. I’ve never scored more than two [goals] in a game, maybe.”
And his coach, Todd McClellan, said Hertl’s happy-to-be-here mentality has led to his early success.
“I’m not even sure he realizes where he is,” McLellan said. “He’s a passionate young man and he’s playing freely.”
The Sharks (3-0-0) and are expected to be one of the top teams in the Western Conference.
