Stanford coach David Shaw rips UW’s Steve Sarkisian over fake injury allegations
Stanford coach David Shaw has responded strongly to claims by Steve Sarkisian, his Washington counterpart, that Cardinal players faked injuries in an effort to slow down the Huskies no-huddle attack, reports Yahoo! Sports’ Pat Forde.
Shaw gave a statement during Tuesday’s Pac-12 teleconference calling Sarkisian’s allegations after Stanford’s 31-28 victory “unprofessional” and “disrespectful.”
He also pointed out that a member of the Washington staff had previously admitted to encouraging players to fake injuries:
“The only assistant coach I know of in the Pac-12 that has had players fake injuries is at Washington, not Stanford.” That’s in reference to Huskies assistant Tosh Lupoi, who was at Cal when the Golden Bears infamously feigned injury to slow down Oregon in 2010. Lupoi admitted to the ploy shortly after the game.
Shaw also took umbrage at Sarkisian’s continuing to question an overturned call on Washington’s final drive of the game.
