Detroit Lions center Dominic Raiola was accused of making obscene and homophobic remarks to members of the University of Wisconsin band prior to his team’s 22-9 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

According to Pro Football Talk, the team is investigating the incident.

“We are aware of the reports involving Dominic Raiola and the University of Wisconsin Marching Band,” the Lions said in a statement. “Those reports are extremely inconsistent with the standard of behavior we expect from our players and from every member of our organization. We currently are gathering more information and will respond further when appropriate.”

Raiola has been disciplined twice by the team for getting into it with fans, receiving a $7,500 fine in 2008 and a $15,000 fine in 2010.

When asked about the incident on Monday, Raiola said it had been “blown way out of proportion.”

“We’ve got more important things to worry about right now,” Raiola said, via Myfoxdetroit.com. “… We’re worried about wins and losses.”

" Those reports are extremely inconsistent with the standard of behavior we expect from our players"

What??? Your players have a well deserved reputation for dirty play, your head coach encourages this type of behavior and he is an overemotional whiner who refuses to take responsibility for his own actions or make his players responsible for theirs.

Isn't that the "standard of behavior" your organization expects from its players and employees? So isn't this incident consistent with the "standard of behavior" your organization expects from their players and employees?

Take away Dominic's Band privileges and instrument.  Bad Boy.  Bands are people too on some level.

Being in a marching band is insult enough. So no way one can insult a band.

Right. Those sweet innocent band kids were not doing anything. Just singing hymnals and praying for his safe return home.

Raiola - hopefully you'll run into a few of them on the street. I will pay your bail.

What does one expect from a team without leadership and discipline.?They are a pack of impulsive thugs. free to say everything, and free to react as the primitive thugs that they are.

@ses435  Who whom???

Anyway, getting called a homophobic epithet by a millionaire football player can lead to a significant increase in personal wealth.

Who whom obvious Android typo. My point was that at some point people gotta be smart enough to know that someone else's opinion or stupidity doesn't matter. This guy knew nothing about him, so why in the world is this kid getting so upset?

@stevesherwood212 You forgot either an apostrophe ("Says Mother Teresa's son") or a comma ("Says mother Teresas, son" - in which case you'd be the father to La Bamba) and thus your comment makes no sense.

@ses435 What kid are we talking about? It looks like the team and the league are unhappy with how one of their employees is behaving, apparently on a consistent basis.

On the contrary, I'd say that his omission of punctuation doubled the comment's meaning, the the two potential interpretations of its ambiguity.
