Texas Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan and general manager Jon Daniels had to be separated by manager Ron Washington after a heated conversation escalated on Tuesday night, reports CBSDFW.com.

According to the report, Daniels and Ryan were apparently face-to-face during the middle of a sit-down meeting “with the possibility of a confrontation.”

The reason for the confrontation is not known.

The Rangers have made the playoffs in three of the past four seasons and finished 2013 with a 91-72 record. The team said this week that they will retain Washington for another season.

More from CBS DFW:

The latest situation between Ryan and Daniels involved the firing of bench coach Jackie Moore. Moore was hand-picked by Ryan to replace Art Howe as the team’s bench coach, but Daniels wanted to replace him last season. The Moore situation became a “flashpoint of front office tension,”

Nolan Ryan is not the problem.  He is the reason the Rangers now expect to see the post-season each year.  Daniels is way too "east coast" (that is not a good thing) and believes the print that has anointed him to be some genius which he is not.  If Ryan leaves, Daniels, Wash and the Rangers will be worse off.

Nolan come work with your son in Houston!!

A heated confrontation over a bench coach. I am still learning new things about baseball.

Daniels and Washington need to be replaced. The Rangers need to hire the Rays or A's GM, and a new manager pronto. Daniels has many more horrendous trades than good ones, and it is the scouts that built the farm system, not Daniels. And Washington is the worst, and dumbest, manager in MLB history, bar none

How can people want Ryan over Daniels. Daniels built this team. In fact, I would say that the meddling of Ryan since he has arrived has been for the worse.

Ryan owns the team. The GM doesn't. Wonder who is fired?? The owner or the employee??? MMMM?

Sure, fire the least influential guy on the team.  That'll fix everything.  The only job the bench coach has is to say "good call, skip" whenever the manager makes a decision that works out.

Kick out that Daniels fool.  Nobody messes with the legend.

There's gotta be more to this than a firing of a bench coach - which is insignificant in the whole scheme of the team. Typical quant vs. old-school. Or, egos. I'm sure Ryan said something to the effect of, "I know this game because I played this game!"

ANyone else think that Old Man Ryan has anger issues.  Sure he's upset that they blew it again and are at home watching the playoffs on the boob tube or golfing, but the old man;s reputation is that he is one nasty ornery fella....

Ahhh ... What really happened is this; lover's spat, make-up sex and ice cream. If I can see this from Boston, why can't Texans?

Daniels may want to go back and look at the tape of Robin Ventura's encounter with Ryan. He messes with the ole Texan, and he may get more than he bargained for.

Daniels can be fired. Ryan's an owner. Sorry, Jon Boy.

@Norm3 I agree the Rangers STUNK for years and when Ryan took over he mentioned some changed and we can all see what has transpired in Texas

Besides it is easier to get rid of a GM then the CEO

@JimCatCabbage Your comment comes close to the worst, and dumbest, comment, bar none. Congratulations on your accomplishment.

@renee If you are Tony Lorusso, then you probably just want a drinking buddy as your bench coach. If you are Grady Little, then you want somebody smarter than you. Wash needs somebody smarter than him.

@renee Not true, the bench coach can be extremely influential with in-game strategy.  Wash and Moore are both old-school.  Chances are that Daniels wanted to switch up that dynamic by providing more statistical analysis of in-game decisions, which by the way is Wash's weakness.

@Richard--Ramirez Any roids Ryan may have ever consumed must have come from all that great Texas bar-b-q that's down there, washed down with some natural lightning-fast ale...Ryan had so much talent, he could have kept pitching till he was a great-great-grandpa.

@Richard--Ramirez So you are implying that Ryan, who's been retired for 20 years not only took steroids, but still has roid rage? LOLOLOL

@Richard--Ramirez  Richie, you can always be counted on to write something that you have no evidence to back up.   Undoubtedly you don't know this, but executives in many businesses have disagreements from time to time.   But, by all means, please keep posting your mindless ramblings.   Fascinating stuff.

@snoopblair @renee  daniels AND washington goofed up this season...the trade for garza was a loser for us...they traded cj edwards, who they should have brought up...check his stats...he couldnt have been worse than garza was...i think we'll regret that trade...and wash kept playing murphy in left, who hit .200!  i woulda thrown profar out there before i let murphy in the dugout again...murphy had to have cost us a coupla games with his lack of hitting...

@Daniel19 @deggie @UleNotknow It would be pretty darned stupid to give the "face of the franchise" the upper hand over the guy who has built a perenially successful franchise.
